Re: [Solved] Where is the Java Control Panel?

What java do you have installed?  For Oracle-java, javaws is generally installed in /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0/bin/javaws.  The command for launching .jar applications in this instance is

java -jar path-to-app.jar

.
Other java applications may install launchers in your .java home directory.  In this case a launch command may be like:

/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0/bin/javaws -localfile ~/.java/deployment/cache/6.0/9/7a63ba49-#######

,
where ####### is some number-letter code.

Re: [Solved] Where is the Java Control Panel?

Dreamwriter,

Just open your "run" box, from the #! menu.

Assuming your running the Oracle version of Java.

Now, type in...

jcontrol

You should see the Java control panel.

Re: [Solved] Where is the Java Control Panel?

Thanks for reply

When I type
java -version, terminal shows me:

java version "1.6.0_27"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.12.3) (6b27-1.12.3-1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode, sharing)

Inside my /usr/lib/jvm/ folder are four folders like this:

java-1.6.0-openjdk-i386 java-6-openjdk-i386
java-6-openjdk-common java-7-openjdk-i386

In the four folders are /usr/bin/javaws, and when I try to run javaws in Thunar, nothing happens. Terminal displays the following error:

/usr/bin/javaws: line 66: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-i386/jre/bin/java: No such file or directory

I can't understand. And my "run box" says: "ERROR: No such file or directory" when i type "jcontrol"
hmm

Re: [Solved] Where is the Java Control Panel?

Dreamwriter,

The command for OpenJDK should be something similar to "jcontrol". Have you tried variants like "openjcontrol" or likewise?

If you wait a bit, I'm sure that someone will offer you the actual command.

If you're in a hurry, you can alternatively use the Oracle JRE. The instructions are here....http://www.duinsoft.nl/packages.php?t=en

If you chose to go that route, you would then be able to access the control panel with the run command...

jcontrol
