Some DWM help necessary...

Hello, I have been doing a little bit of WM jumping, and have heard about DWM. I, however, do not know how to install it in such a way that it is not a packaged file, as that will prohibit the ability to customize the WM via an editor. I have seen instructions on the gentoo and arch wiki's, but those wiki's are not very compatible to the Debian/Crunchbang system. SHORT VERSION: I can install DWM and use it, however I am unable to find the config.h file, much less edit it. Sorry for being a noob, but I am not very savvy in this world of WM's and DE's, as I have only just started to *bother* with this stuff.

Re: Some DWM help necessary...

^ No worries... It is obscure but very helpful

FYI, though Arch is not 'compatible' with #!, the Arch Wiki is and has been an incredible resource for most bangers here.  That wiki is one of the best anywhere

Re: Some DWM help necessary...

sudo apt-get install git
sudo apt-get build-dep dwm
mkdir -p source
cd source
git clone http://git.suckless.org/dwm
cd dwm
<editor> config.def.h
make
sudo make install

Rinse and repeat for any source code changes. After the first compile, you'll get config.h in the source folder, so use that one to modify the code.

I get stuck on the second command. Here is the error message:
E: You must put some 'source' URIs in your sources.list

O_o? I have heard of a sources.list file, but what does this have to do with it?

Re: Some DWM help necessary...

you need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list and uncomment the lines starting with deb-src and then run apt-get update
