Sorry it took a few days to get them off to you, but I sent them yesterday. Let me know if there is a problem and I can upload the archives to my server.

I think it would be really interesting to see what Bohdi could do with the new xfce 4.8 smile

Re: Zenix OS?

Another way to get those wallpapers and the coloured conky-scripts, is to run the zenix.iso in a VirtualBox a than copy and paste... hmm

BTW: The preconfigured compositing settings are really nice! wink

Re: Zenix OS?

Thank you all for taking Zenix for a spin, greatly appreciated.

Due to popular demand, I posted a link to the backgrounds on the Zenix Downloads page, here are the direct links:

http://zenix-os.net/backgrounds.zip

http://zenix-os.net/backgrounds2.zip

I had to break it into 2 zip files for email, but they are sort of a pain to email as they are large.

Enjoy smile

Re: Zenix OS?

I am thrilled by this concept. I just tried Zennix live cd, and I can say it has a unique atmosphere, especially with Awesome wm, which isn't that hard to cope with as I thought it would be. I like the default OB theme too, especially the wallpapers.

Although it is not geared with number of scripts as #!, Zenix is simple and yet powerful Debian.
The only thing I cannot get to the logic is the size of it - isn't it too huge for such simplified distro?! For 600mb it should have much more, or better to stay this simple but half sized. I would nearly say the same for #!. Correct me if I am wrong.

I look forward to see Zenix evolving

Of course, it's dead, too.

I don't think that was the same. The link you gave talks about a distro  based on Linux From Scratch. The Zenixos i know was based in debian stable. Thanks for the reply.

If you're speaking of the OS that was located at: http://zenix-os.net, the domain is now owned by a scalper.  I'm pretty sure the OS is resting at the bottom of the ocean with concrete swim fins, along with the corpses of so many other distros.

Yes that's the one. To bad, it was an interesting distro.

Re: Zenix OS?

You can always find the releases of past distros floating around, but I don't think I would consider a blog post from May '11 to be anything other than an archive.

From the comments in that post:

I think it is not working more:
NOTICE: This domain name expired on 10/08/2012 and is pending renewal or deletion.
Do you know if the site has changed?
Where is it?
Which is the password to access when you open the live zenix?

I had to stop maintaining Zenix. Sort of a combination of too small a user base, not enough free time, and some life changes.

You can download the iso from

32 bit:
http://bodhizazen.net/zenix-2.0-i686.iso

64 bit
http://bodhizazen.net/zenix-2.0-amd64.iso

Re: Zenix OS?

At a time it was released, I had it installed for tryout. It was nice playing with Awesome, and I enjoyed nice designed environment. It lacked scripts and useful tools that #! has by default. So I took the Zenix ob and gtk themes and transfered hem to #! (forgot to take audacious skin with it though)...

Death can happen to any distro, especially to community based one.
The idea was good, but next to #! it couldn't had drawn enough users. If it was Enlightenment17 based, I think it wouldn't have died.  I waited for openGEU a long time for it was promised to be built over Debian, but it halts ever since. Proprietary Elive still holds a silent monopoly in its field, so whoever decides to build Debian with E17, has a real deal.

Let's hope our beloved #! will always be here with us  kiss
