Well I let a lot of others test Waldorf out first
I wouldn't try and install ver 24+ of emacs without a big reason as with my luck it probably wouldn't work anyway.
I does make me wonder why it's not in the repos for Waldorf - I mean people have been using ver 24 for more than a year.
I think it was only officially released about June2012. Yeah you dont expect the very latest version of 24 but A version would be nice.

Rule No.1 of Debian: It has to be grossly outdated to be accepted.
Rule No.2 of Debian: We won't accept anything while our repos are frozen, even if it's a a cure for cancer.
Rule No.3 of Debian: Our repos are always frozen.

I am running GNU Emacs 24.3.50.1 (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.4.2) in Waldorf.
Installed from: http://emacs.naquadah.org/
And eveything is working out of the box: org-mode, AucTex, Gnus.

Hmm you got my curiousity abt trying the newer version
However adding the new source from the site mentioned didn't work for me - although I updated the sources in synaptic the newer version of emacs was not showing up so I just followed the guide on this site about getting it from github and all went well
installing from github
its 24.3.50.1
link to the github source
