[Solved] SpaceFM Install - Size of Other Pkgs Installed

I just tried to install SpaceFM and discovered that to install it requires installing 66 other packages as well.  Anyone know the total size of the 66 packages that are installed?

'apt-get install spacefm' wil tell you how much space is needed to install. If you are unhappy with it, type 'no'...

I'll try again, but I believe "apt-get install" or "aptitude install" only tells you the size of the specific package you specify with the command.  I don't believe it tells you the size of any other packages that get pulled in.

Re: [Solved] SpaceFM Install - Size of Other Pkgs Installed

Just using Thunar as an example:

$ sudo apt-get install thunar
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libthunarx-2-0 thunar-data
Suggested packages:
  thunar-archive-plugin thunar-media-tags-plugin
Recommended packages:
  xfce4-panel thunar-volman tumbler xdg-user-dirs
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libthunarx-2-0 thunar thunar-data
0 upgraded, 3 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 4,176 kB of archives.
After this operation, 10.2 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? n

Notice that apt-get tells me both how much it needs to download, and how much space will be used when it installs Thunar (and all its packages)..

Re: [Solved] SpaceFM Install - Size of Other Pkgs Installed

Thanks, pidsley.  I just remembered that SpaceFM is not in the repos.  You have to download it and use either dpkg or gdebi to install it.  I used gdebi to attempt the install under a Sid distro.

How did you generate that pseudo screenshot of terminal activity?

Re: [Solved] SpaceFM Install - Size of Other Pkgs Installed

^ The main reason there is not a spacefm package in the Debian repos is that it did not have a declared "stable" release before the current package freeze.

The spacefm author does have a repo you can setup to install the package through your package manager.
There are instructions for setting it up here.

You can copy and paste from a terminal to get examples like pidsley posted.

Re: [Solved] SpaceFM Install - Size of Other Pkgs Installed

You just paste this:

sudo apt-get install thunar

into your terminal. Before it will be installed, you see in Pidsley's post, it asks you:

I just figured out one way to do the pseudo screenshots.

You place text between "code" tags

Mouse over "Code" in the line just above the text box for forum posts.

^I hope you don't think I was trying to steal your thunder.  I was basically answering the question I initially asked you.  I wasn't aware of the post you referenced.

Re: [Solved] SpaceFM Install - Size of Other Pkgs Installed

I went ahead and installed SpaceFM under Walfdorf a few minutes ago.  The total download was 33.1 MB.
