Hello Guys,
This is my first day with my new Netboook an Packard Bell DOt S (Atom N2600) .
It is supposed to have battery lasting 5+ hours with wifi usage.
Today I just installed #! and the battery drained it about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Even my laptop can work a lote more with batteries.
I am pretty sure ( I hope) to be an OS problem. Is crunchbang optimized for netbooks in terms of battery?
If not what I should do to fix the issue? It is the most important thng battery to a netbook
Thanks

It could be a lot.

Most probably the power regression issue relevant to linux kernel up until 3.4, right?
I would try rc6 grub mod as well, or install liquorix kernel. These will make a massive difference.
Doesn't matter that your machine is not thinkpad, its an intel thing in this post I'm suggesting, and a power regression inherent to the kernel.

Try 'e' at boot first, otherwise look at /etc/defaults/grub

^It's not an Intel, but a PowerVR graphic card, so all the rc6 stuff is useless.
@gosom: Try newer (3.6x +) kernels (liquorix, siduction-kernels), they are supposed to have improved support for power management on this card. Also, try searching for "gma3600" or "intel cedar view" in the webs...
I have the same netbook, but I barely use it (I gave it to a friend without computer). It has been getting better with newer kernels, at least performance-wise. Dunno about battery life.

I can recommend Jupiter, a small applet that lives in the notification area.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jupiter/files/
The Wbupd8 Team maintains a ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~webupd8team/+archive/jupiter
It is by far the easiest way to maintain battery life on Linux that I have tried.

A PPA for Ubuntu. Means you have to deal with possible problems.

Ok and how I upgrade the kernel?
Is this kernel ok?
I would prefer to stay with sogmething more tested.

@ivanov
It has worked for me on Debian before, and I have no reason to suspect it will not work again. But if you are wary of the ppa, you can always download the source from sourceforge and build it yourself

@gossom:
Maybe this:

http://liquorix.net/
http://siduction.org/
Though, it is of advantage to use Testing/Unstable or consider installing CrunchBang 11 Waldorf.

I will try first with the crunchbang 11. Fix the other problems and then I will consider another Kernel

I meant for the repos, #! 11 itself offers the same kernel that you can find in backports in #! 10. That means you have to try indeed some of the suggestions, stock #! 11 probably won't fix your power regression.

Nevermind. Thanks for the help.
I am on testing now.

How's the battery life now? I asked my friend, he has about 2.5 hs of battery with siduction-xfce4 on this netbook with a 3-cell battery.
