Re: Laptop cases...

Google 'laptop barebone cases'.

That might get what you want.

Re: Laptop cases...

Indeed, google shopping for "laptop cases" will bring up sleeves and cases with or without handles, straps or removable stretch limousine. Scroll down and you can sub-search by style, price or feature.

I use a Body Glove neoprene sleeve for my netbook. It was cheap and bare bones (no handle, inside has one main space and one pocket) but it's well padded, the zipper is solid with smooth action and neither the seams nor any other part of it are showing any signs of fraying after several months of sliding it in and out of a backpack.

Re: Laptop cases...

....OP wants an outer chassis to actually build a laptop and put it in, not carry it.....? Laptop cases are designed depending on the size and fit on the internal bits and bobs. A lap top outer shell would likely entail the designers predicting what kind of components you will use or making the outer shell large enough that it can accommodate most internal bobbins. You might end up with a big box, with leads, etc., that need twisting to come out the shell, or one that looks completely turd.

Does seem to be some about... http://factory.dhgate.com/china/laptop+outer+shell/ (one a few images down...)

Re: Laptop cases...

^ Ah...in light of the other parts of the initial post, that makes more sense.

One would think that, as with desktops, there would be only a limited number of standardized mobo and peripheral form factors?

Re: Laptop cases...

There are some manufacturers that will build to your specs, if you can't find what you were looking for.

Re: Laptop cases...

Thanks for all the replies.  Yes what I'm looking for is a case/shell !!  As above I'm currently looking into building my own laptop but just need to find a case/shell to put it in...
