[SOLVED] Error msg in sudo apt-get update after installation of skype

After i tried to install skype i'm always getting this error msg at the end of a 'sudo apt-get update'

W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/security.debian.org_dists_testing_updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages)
W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates/main i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/security.debian.org_dists_testing_updates_main_binary-i386_Packages)

What does that mean? And how could that be eliminated?

TIA

Re: [SOLVED] Error msg in sudo apt-get update after installation of skype

Check you files that are in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ folder (and in /etc/apt/sources.list) for duplicated entries and remove or comment the duplicates.

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*

shows them listed, you can post it here if you don't know what to do.

Thanks a lot for the pointer. I did not consider the sources.list.d directory. There it was the doubled entry!

There were not precisely duplicated. One was tracked to 64bit, the other was tracked to i386. Remove the one that pertains to your machine architecture, I guess.

Re: [SOLVED] Error msg in sudo apt-get update after installation of skype

I understood the msg that security ressources of both, amd64 and i386 were doubled (i386 came by the installation of skype i think because it does not exist as amd64). In any case i deleted the relative entry in the sources.list.d directory and the problem has gone big_smile
