Saving Sessions?

I wish you could provide instructions (or rather incorporate) on how do I go about saving a session. I had followed the advice on another related post - sudo apt-get install crunchbang-multi-session but it could not find the necessary package in your repository.

I am enjoying this tremendous release! Thanks.

Re: Saving Sessions?

Could you explain a bit more as to what you mean by 'saving a session'. What is it you want to save?

Re: Saving Sessions?

That was quick!!

By saving a session, I mean this - on re-booting I need to work straight off (usually in the morning) from where I left off (usually at night). The programs that I had opened last time should remain opened on a reboot.

Re: Saving Sessions?

The package crunchbang-multi-session is from the days when XFCE was available as an alternate DE.  It isn't available in the current repo.  You should be able to download it from here and install it with gdebi.

I'm pretty sure you can't do that in Openbox so you'd have to install and log into a different desktop environment like Xfce which does support doing that.

Re: Saving Sessions?

Thanks. I have installed the crunchbang-multi-session.deb. Now what? Where should I go to edit the setting among other things?

Re: Saving Sessions?

@omns. Ha! Thanks for the info. I wont waste my time doing that then. I am happy with this limitation. But in case this distro can incorporate it, it would be wonderful.

Re: Saving Sessions?

It's not a limitation of CrunchBang, but of Openbox.  I think your best option would be to install XFCE, if it wasn't already pulled in by crunchbang-multi-session.

Once you've installed XFCE, you should be able to select it from the GDM login screen.

Re: Saving Sessions?

Nope! I am happy with openbox and am willing to let go of the save-session wish. Thanks for all the help.
