HDMI Audio Issue in Debian 6.0.6 (Squeeze)

Alright. I have been searching for the resolution for this for HOURS.

I have an nVidia GTX 560 with my Samsung 40" Connected VIA HDMI
Yes, The nVidia drivers are installed and working well.

Here are the outputs of the following commands:

# lspci | grep Audio

I get this:

03:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0e0c (rev a1)

Then this command:

# cat /proc/asound/cards

Gives me This:

--- no soundcards ---

And finally

# alsactl init

Gives me This...

alsactl: init:1743: No soundcards found...

I certainly hope I have given all the information needed.
I am not new to Debian, but I'm certainly not an expert either.

Re: HDMI Audio Issue in Debian 6.0.6 (Squeeze)

Upgrade your kernel to the latest version in backports. See http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/258392/#p258392

If your sound card is not detected after booting into the new kernel, post output of

uname -r
lspci -knn | grep -EiA3 audio

I got the Kernel installed, but I have a new problem.

The new Kernel wont start up unless in SingleUser mode.
Second, I have an error on start up regarding the sound card

Setting up ALSA ...warning: 'alsactl restore' failed with error message 'No state is present for card NVidia
Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Nvidia GPU 16 HDMI/DP" HDA:10de0016,10de0101,00100100" "0x3842" "0x1463"
Hardware is initialized using a guess method
No state is present for card Nvidia'...done.

And the output of the command you asked for...

# uname -r
3.2.0-0.bpo.3-amd64

And...

# lspci -knn | grep -EiA3 audio
03:00.1 Audio device [0403]: nVidia Corperation Device [10de:0e0c] (rev a1)
               Subsystem: eVga.com. Corp Device [3842:1463]
               Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

Even if the does get fixed in the new kernel, I cant start Gnome, and I can only start Single User.... so... Im stuck.

Re: HDMI Audio Issue in Debian 6.0.6 (Squeeze)

You will have to re-install the nvidia drivers after upgrading the kernel. Use smxi for it. Chances are that  the Audio card is detected then.
