For those who are finding a few bugs running Xfce 4.10 from experimental with Sid, this may be of interest. I think I have a new Sunday project

^ Hi, omns! I must say I just (few days a go) upgraded my system to unstable/sid and still using xfce 4.10 from my previous xfce upgrade/install without any issues at all.
But if this packages from siduction work, then they are way easier to install/maintain. If you do try it please report back, I'll gladly update my how to with it.

Thanks omns,
I haven't tried it with Sid yet, but it works without problems with Wheezy!

I am not sure what is gained by adding the Siduction repos... I added them and tested what they are updating compared to Debian experimental and the files are identical.

^ They seem to have all the Xfce Apps and Plugins updated to 4.10, unlike the Debian experimental repository.

^ Do you mean what is included in xfce4-goodies? I see those remaining at 4.8.
Or the ones that you are tracking in your How To?

As a follow up to this, my experiences installing Xfce 4.10 using the Siduction Repo
First I ran
sudo suThen this
echo deb http://ftp.spline.de/pub/siduction/xfcenext unstable main > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xfcenext.listI could not pull down the siduction-archive-keyring through apt-get so I went to this site and downloaded this siduction-archive-keyring_2012.07.01_all.deb file and used gdebi to install it.
I parsed all of these apps from the /siduction/xfcenext source site

That one package wanted to bring in all of Gnome3 and every single one of her dependencies... That I did not want.
Note on the xfswitch-plugin:
Xfswitch-plugin is a user switching plugin for the Xfce4 Panel. It allows you to leave the current session opened and open a new session with another user. At the moment it relies on GDM, but other display managers will be supported in the future.
So except for xfswitch-plugin, everything is fully installed and working fine.
This was the apt-get line I used to install it

I want to try xfce 4.10,and I`m using sid,if I add siduction xfce repo to my source list,I can`t use apt-get -t unstable install xfce,since I`m on debian unstable,or can I?

They told me on the siduction forums to edit /etc/apt/preferences and make unstable's priority lower than 900.
XFCE 4.10 will be picked up then.
my preferences:
Package: *
#Pin: release a=testing
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 890
#Package: *
#Pin: release n=statler
#Pin-Priority: 1001
#Package: *

That will install/downgrade to Xfce 4.8 from Debian Sid/Unstable.
In doubt, you can always check which versions are available and are to be installed with:
$ apt-cache policy xfceTry it.

I`m noticing fonts are rendering differently than my openbox in xfce4.10,in xfce4.10 is more apple-ish,
How is it working?

I really didn't notice anything, but try to change the font rendering and see how it works better for you:
Settings Manager -> Appearance -> Fonts (tab)
You may change your font, its anti-aliasing, hinting and sub-pixel order. Also make sure you have the proper DPI setting for you monitor size and resolution. You should calculate your DPI by:
DPI = √(W^2 + H^2) / S
where W = Width in Pixels; H = Height in Pixels; S = Diagonal Size in Inches (display size).
My settings are:
Enabled anti-aliasing
Hinting: Slight
Sub-pixel ordering: RGB
DPI: 92 (for an 24" 1920x1080, but I choosed to set it on the xorg.conf file instead)
Try it.

^ Mine are
Enabled anti-aliasing
Hinting: Medium
Sub-pixel ordering: RGB
DPI: 96 (Which seems to fit my 28 inch screens better)
