Installation failure

I tried crunchbang about ten days ago and wound up with stable on three machines. Easy installs. I put xfce on them because it seemed easier for my son. Then I decided I wanted to run testing on one machine. When I tried to install it gets to about 23% of copying to disk and then jumps to 84% and tells me there are files on the disk that will ruin the install and refuses to go further. I tried several times and it now refuses to install stable also in the same manner. I have used dban to erase several times and have reformated several times. Tried installing encrypted and nothing seems to work. Both installation disks refuse to install to an unclean disk. Been through the manual and forums and find nothing to help.
Anybody got any ideas other than getting another hard disk. I have run some test software and the disk seems to be fine.

Re: Installation failure

Seems like an issue with the installation media. Are you using CD, USB? Did you burn on lowest settings? Or follow this guide?:

Re: Installation failure

I think you may be right. The stable disk I burned on the windows that came on the machine. It gave me no choice but the fastest. It worked three times so I guess it is good. The testing  was burned on xburn and it only gave me the choice of fastest or default. When I have time i will check the disk. I even went so far as to try a mini instal of Ubuntu 804. It said I did not have a disk. Then I tried a disk of Peppermint and it installed fine so do not think it is a hardware problem. I really want Crunchbang back on the machine.

Re: Installation failure

I always use unetbootin to burn iso's to usb and have never had any problems. There is dd of course, but that takes more of a 'man' hmm

True, I just don't trust myself, especially with things that seem so simple...

Re: Installation failure

Simple and powerful; dd is awesome. The wiki guide won't lead you wrong
http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/statler … stallation

I couldn't get Waldorf to install with unetbootin and had similar errors as op. It would fail at loading around 30% or so.

If USB aint an option, maybe try another DVD..
I thought I read where someone had a similar issue and it turned out that the image was too large for the CD or something.
good luck

Re: Installation failure

Junkie that is good information. In my searching I had found no reference to anyone with a similar problem. I seem to remember thinking it was a big cd. Something like 700 or 703 Mb. Usually they are around 698 or so. It seemed to burn and boot so I thought no more about it. I can not burn DVD so I will try another method. This is a backup machine for us so I only work on it when I am not rushed. Thank you.
