Hi there,
I started using CrunchBang a couple of days ago after a disappointing experience with the Ubuntu 12.10 upgrade and I've really fallen in love with it. While I am having some technical issues, I see them as challenges to overcome. But anyway, it's a great system.
Just one suggestion:
After putting Waldorf on my main PC, I put Statler (your main edition) on an old backup PC (saved my life during the Ubuntu experience) and well it's just not as pretty as Waldorf. There's a risk you could lose people dipping their toes into CrunchBang who won't be impressed with the look. Waldorf on the other hand is very stylish.
Perhaps you could either:
- promote Waldorf as your main release;
- update the Statler theme and icons.
Anyway, great distro. Love the look and the post-installation script and really everything about this.

Waldorf is the testing release, based upon Debian testing. When Testing goes stable, then Waldorf will become the main release.
Personally, I never thought that Statler wasn't pretty enough, but the thing about aesthetics is that you'll never please everyone (unless you are Ubuntu, in which case you'll never please anyone!)

Welcome to the club, Simon!
I've seen posts recently the complete dipole to yours, with requests for Waldorf to revert to the look of Statler.
It would be impossible to make any majority happy in regards to looks.
But good news, nonetheless! The look is incredibly easy to alter and you'll learn a lot of fantastic stuff while figuring out how to change the look of the install. I've learned more about the theming of a DE with !# than in all my years with previous distros.

Well, horses for courses, I guess. I've never quite understood all the praise that Linux Mint gets but it's clear it's a big favorite with people. A good thing I came via Waldorf first, then.
Ubuntu's ok but once you want to start being productive, you start to wonder whether it's really the most appropriate choice.

Indeed. I just put Ubuntu (Natty, because I wasn't going to download another Buntu iso when I have one already pointlessly cluttering up my hard drive) on my old laptop. SO SLOW! So much clutter, too. Started w. 1441 packages; I have maybe 1000 on Waldorf (with various added stuffs, although some uninstalled also); straight Debian starts with only 700 even with desktop and laptop packages, and I have a working Debian install with around 300...

Themes and icons? Sorry, but have you seen this?

No, that's just it. Waldorf is design perfection. It's a designer's distro. I just felt the gnomey icons in the systray of Statler looked a bit clunky and that the menu bar was the wrong shades of grey. Would it not be possible to have both looks available for both stable and testing, even if they would still come with their own default settings?

"Stable" kind of implies that development is done, all efforts are focused on Waldorf at this point. I'm sure the icons and shades of grey (heh, heh) can be easily imported, yes?
