Raspberry Pi Image needed

I think #! would be a perfect distro for the Raspberry Pi. Its based on Debian which has an arm branch so in theory all of the programs would be ported to the arm processor. All that would be needed would maybe some a few Pi specific packages.

Plus getting in this early #! could be a big player. What is the status of this as a possibility?

Does Cerenomial have a PI? do we need to order him one?

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

Do you have a Pi? I recommend you start hacking a little, like finding out what special configuration the HDMI port would need etc. pp. Maybe we could hack together a post install script for the ARM netinst.

I'm so meta, even this acronym

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

I got mine in the mail 5 days ago. Have been hacking on it a little.

Most of the configs, including HDMI are in /boot/config.txt of the stock images. installing a separate boot partition with a config.txt is part of a specific Pi image.

If i had more info on how to build an image, im sure i could. i can turn an ISO into an IMG easily enough, and then DDing that in would be easy. what i would need is ?

can you build a debian arm setup in a virtual machine?
Is there a program like remastersys for debian that can make me an ISO of my virtual machine?

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

I do not understand the need for another Debian image for the Pi.
There is already a Squeeze one, one based on Wheezy and the Raspbian project focussing on optimizing the Debian system for the Pi Hardware (hard vs soft float)

#! is still only Debian with a nice openbox configuration.

So has anyone successfully managed to get #! ported to the Pi yet?

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

It would be fun to try. I've been contemplating learning to bodge a system together on my pi (have subsonic and openbox streaming away great on another)- CrunchBang for me is an obvious port

I do, thank you. Becky purchased one for me at OggCamp. I have not had too much time to play with it, but I do have Raspbian running and I like it. Also, I think I agree with root, Raspbian works pretty well as it is and I don't really see a need for a #! Pi image. That said, you might be surprised by the amount of people who have asked me this.

Considering the mere existence of this thread, do you really think we'd be surprised? wink

Maybe a π! post-install script, similar to the ones discussed in the Community CrunchBang thread.

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

I would love to see/work on a script to take a default Rasbian image, and convert it too #!

In fact I will start working on that now. here is a github repo. I suck as shell scripts, so any help is welcome as long as you comment the f@#$ out it.

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

With tons of help, I am releasing RC! of the PiBang Linux distro.

This is a Linux distro for the Raspberry Pi with as much of the #! functionality as is possible.

We would love more contributers and testers!

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

Would love to help but my Pi still not arrived and is now rescheduled for late November. Damn thing is just catching too many people's imagination. I know its nothing the forum can do but the little rant has made me feel better.  Thanks.

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

I don't really see a need for a #! Pi image.

No need for lots of things, but what's functionalism got to do with it?! I think there is a bit of an experimental, acceptance of crunches and bangs between #! and raspberry pi, or some resonance there anyway. I thought of #! immediately anyway.

And, coming to functionalism, or commercialism anyway, I also reckon the raspberry pi is a massive marketing machine...

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

I am jealous! Overclocking them makes a massive difference too. I had one on mid overclock setting, and it was almost fast enough for normal usage.

Re: Raspberry Pi Image needed

^ It's a bit frustrating as I only received my 256MB version 3 days ago after waiting 6 months on delivery roll
Still that's progress for you and at RasPi prices no big deal.

I have tried some overclocking...yet to find the sweet spot...
