disclaimer + intro

I'm new to pretty much everything Linux. I started out on Windows before switching to Macintosh in 2009. 3 years after (ie. now) I'm looking at Linux distributions to switch to, since OS X is getting less and less customizable with each release. I spent a couple weeks with Ubuntu and decided I should keep looking. I've recently stumbled upon #! (I don't remember where)... point is, I'm new. like, very, very new. I didn't know what extracting was about a month ago.

Hello everyone! I'll be going by the handle satori on these forums. (it comes from Japanese Buddhism, literally "an awakening." I found it while reading the Wikipedia page for "The Hacker's Manifesto," an essay I hold close to my heart.) I'm so excited to join a community of such knowledgeable yet friendly people.

I also agree with the ideological basis of open-source, Linux, and the hacker ethos of solving problems and creating useful tools.

Yeah, Ubuntu is not too customizable. Plus, Ubuntu is imitating OS X. I get their point, Apple has started a wave and Ubuntu is trying to ride it, which is fine.

Indeed, GNU/Linux is a philosophy too, but most people don't care about that. It's too bad, because these days I think we need this philosophy. You know, less competition, more cooperation, freedom and sharing etc.

Welcome to #! smile

Once, long ago, #! was based on Ubuntu, then switched to Debian. There was a reason for this...
