I'm actually more interested in the wall...or rather, what's shown in the wall. Something similar to a tea ceremony?

Ah, ok. Nothing as sophisticated as the tea ceremony I'm afraid. I found the wallpaper on a "spa" website I think and the items shown are oils and such for massages. http://postimage.org/image/joaa5n2zn/

OK, so those rolls are towels, not pastries; no wonder they looked fuzzy. Nevermind.

This may seem like a stupid question (stupid enough that I really don't think it deserves its own thread), but I can't figure it out.
How can I switch window managers?
With all previous distributions there was a way to specify which WM or DE to use at the login screen. I installed #! 11, which has a login screen unlike any I've seen before. It's just a text input box for username, then press enter, then a text input box for password. There is no mouse, and there are no other controls on the login screen. Am I just being thick and not seeing something, or not getting something? I'd like to keep this login screen, because I think it's nice and clean, but I'd also like some way to specify which WM to boot into (because having tried both blackbox and fluxbox, I definitely prefer fluxbox [although the default menu in blackbox is pretty nice and well organized]).

If it makes you feel any better, I thought they were pastries too.
Anyhow, back on topic. Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread (didn't show in a search), but I just discovered that fbsetbg is capable of randomly selecting a wallpaper with each log in. Pays to take a look at the man page every now and then.
fbsetbg -r <wallpaper directory> &in your fluxbox start-up script does the trick. Adds a little variety, just passing the information along.

I use cron to run that every half hour to change my background.
You have to set the DISPLAY environment variable in the cron command to get it to work.

PackRat - If you use conky you can insert a line in conky for that command to run at a specified interval to get it to change your wallpaper randomly.
${execi 600 fbsetbg -r /home/user/wallpapers}That would be for once ever 10 minutes.

Great tips. I wasn't aware that you could even do that without some fancy scripting.
@Rooster - Thanks for that link. Maybe now I can make peace with Slim. I just never cared much for that little cowpoke (cowboy talk lol).

I've used fluxbox for years, I've also used openbox (with crunchbang, obviously). Now I'm trying to get away from fluxbox because I've encountered a few bugs. Openbox seems better, but I need a panel for it, and tint2 is amazing. The feature I miss from fluxbox is specifying the window size, I'm using devilspie for that on openbox. So, yeah, I need openbox+tint2+devilspie for the same functionality as fluxbox, but openbox+tint2 are more modern and more configurable. On a very old laptop I'm still using fluxbox, but I think I'll try blackbox on that one.

I have been using the new release of #!Crunchbang-11 Waldorf with the Fluxbox WM added.
Except for a minor workaround with SLIM, to get other WMs in the 'Sessions' option . . . everything is working well.
I have used #! with Openbox since Statler was 1st released and still have and use that version the most.
However, I have been a hard-core Fluxbox user for a while now and installing Fluxbox with Wheezy seemed like a good idea.

Hi. I used fluxbox from 2006 'till mid 2010 when it was a bit slow updating and had some issues. I tried lots of different window managers as a replacement and ended up building my own. I'm still enamoured with fluxbox, so much so that I've built some of flux's uniqueness into what I use now. Here's my favourite shot from 2010:
If you're using fluxbox and are familiar with the manpages(notice the plural there) you should be enjoying your desktop for sure.
Cheers

Another new version of fluxbox, 1.3.4, was released.
This one fixes several major bugs in the last version.
Critical Bugfixes in 1.3.4:
All timer based problems are fixed now
Fixed integer overflows for some gradient textures
Fixed compile issue on MacOSOffline
I really like fluxbox. I tried it with xubuntu 12.10 but thunar not show icons. I tried editing.
Gtkrc-2.0
gtk-icon-theme-name = IconsName but no luck
Now use #! but when I have time I try it again

^ Fluxbox should have no affect on Icons unless xfce is forcing something for thunar.
Your icon line in .gtkrc-2.0 should be
gtk-icon-theme-name="IconsName"not
gtk-icon-theme-name = IconsNameOffline
I am one of the Debian-Maintainers for the Fluxbox package -- in our efforts to fix all critical-bugs, in preparation for the NEW Debian 7 Wheezy 'stable' release -- we have released a new release of the Fluxbox WM. Mostly, all bug fixes but it makes Fluxbox more stable as a Window Manager.

Fluxbox 1.3.4 - bend physics back to reality
Sun Feb 10 16:34:13 UTC 2013
New year, new release. Since the fluxbox-1.3.3 contained a few rather nasty bugs (some have labeled it "unlucky release"
), here is the 100% bug free version you should use from now on. No more time holes, sorry folks.
General:
Added 'LHalf' / 'RHalf' titlebar buttons
Added 'ClientPatternTest' command for testing clientpatterns via fluxbox-remote
Added 'he_IL' translations
Critical Bugfixes in 1.3.4:
All timer based problems are fixed now
Fixed integer overflows for some gradient textures
Fixed compile issue on MacOS
Other Bugfixes:
Correct renderinger of 'sunken' textures
Move windows without the lagging-behind-effect on slower machines
Improved color brightening in textures
Memory and other code improvements in texture rendering code
Fix build-system issues
Happy fluxboxing!
