sudo apt-get install e16If you want e17, I do not know. Sorry...

i actually just did this today too
I used this: http://omicron.homeip.net/projects/#easy_e17.sh
it worked well installing, but you have to add it to your xsessions yourself (it still tells you what to do though)
i just wish e17 has a config file... >.>

I booted up Elive just the other day. That's enough Enlightenment for me for at least 12 months!

+1. I installed e17 a few weeks ago, I think I only booted into it once. It sure looks nice in those videos though...

If you want to try E17, just look at opengeu project. You can add opengeu repos (there is an explanation on their site) and install quite useable E17 in your !# (or any other *buntu) system. You would be able to choose E17 session at login just like you choose any other wm/de session and run it.
But it's a little bit scary, for example, E17 tray is real pain in the ass, and E17 file browser is a crying shame. You still can run decent and reliable apps like stalonetray or pcmanfm in E17, but i believe it's a waste of time. I guess trying to add E17 features to any other popular window managers/desktop environments would be more efficient.
If you are keen on exotic wm's try fvwm - it used to be rather well documented, and some tricks and solutions still live in google's cache.
Seems like i am fvwm obsessed at the moment... Anyway, if you want to try E17, the best way to do so is to add opengeu project repositories and install E17 and all E17 extras from there. They would even work in their E17 way. ) I know because i tried it. )) Here is the link, by the way: http://opengeuwiki-en.intilinux.com/ind … m_packages

I've always been... intrigued... by Enlightenment. Some of the production videos and screenshots have been absolutely breathtaking.
I gave both Elive and OpenGEU a try at one point or another, and while very eye pleasing, I found it to be somewhat glitchy and counter intuitive. I don't know how much has to do with e17 and how much has to do with the build itself though.
Still, it is quite pretty.

deb http://packages.enlightenment.org/ubuntu jaunty main extras

You don't need to use network manager, you can install wicd or use simple manual setup with ifconfig/iwconfig ect.

This is an old thread so I am wondering if there is any updated information on how to install e17 on the current Debian based Crunchbang? I tried using the Debian Sid repositories but I got a whole list of missing dependencies.

@Elder, I'm home sick with a cold so I'm trying this now, follow up post in half an hour...
http://debe17.com/deb_page/deb_install_page.html
-follow up- Well, that was a piece of cake! It took about 20 minutes, I didn't receive any errors. Please note I'm using a fairly standard #! Xfce Squeeze install. Screenshot in the screen thread...
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/116295/#p116295
I uninstalled it with
apt-get purge debe17-svn && apt-get --purge autoremove(always check what apt wants to autoremove). Autoremove wanted to purge things like subversion and lib-cairo, so I'm going to do the whole install/purge again to make sure that it's right.
-edit- Yes, all correct. Other dependencies pulled in that autoremove will take care of include automake, autotools, cvs, git and a bunch of x11-proto packages.
-edit- Oops, I forgot... the Enlightenment session did not start nm-applet by default.

Just a little update, E17 is in the Debian Unstable Repository. You can get it by adding this to your repositories: 'deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free'
It is working great for me. However, it is missing Tclock. If anyone knows how to add this module please share the info. In the meantime I will be "Googling" my butt off. Thanks.

@ElderV.LaCoste
I triedthe Debian Unstable Repository and got an error concerning gcc.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libc6-dev : Breaks: gcc-4.4 (< 4.4.6-4) but 4.4.5-8 is to be installed
So it seems this is not working anymore. At least not for me, but I have a default #! install. With no extra repositories except the unstable ones I just added. I'll regroup, make another plan of attack, and post the results.

If DEs were people, E17 would be the stereotypical trophy wife.
Gorgeous, lightweight, flaky, overdressed... and useless.
LEGO won't be ready for the average user until it comes pre-assembled, in a single unified look, and glued together so it doesn't come apart.

try Bodhi 2.0 live to see if E17 is your type of DE. It's based off Ubuntu 12.04.
Offline
+1 I can vouch for Bodhi. It's about the only distro I can think of that does Enlightenment justice.
Just who is General Failure and what's he doing reading my hard drive?

Yeah, I can agree. Bodhi linux.
