Virutal box installation always results in less RAM. (Video driver?)

For example: vanilla 32-bit #! (waldorf 2012-09-27) in virtual box: 87.5 MB.

In the meantime if anyone has uninstalled slim without issues then let me know.
If I boot without slim then when I try and reboot from cb-exit I get an error regarding freedesktop / consolekit permissions;

Error org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager.NotPrivileged: Not Authorized

sudo visudo

add this to the bottom:

ALL     ALL=NOPASSWD:/sbin/shutdown

to suspend:

ALL     ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/sbin/pm-suspend

(found that somehere here but can't remember where)

Impressive thread, a great one to follow. Nice going chameleon and everyone else involved.

I am an Xfce 4.10 user and I can get down to 105 MiB in use without any Conky or Tint2 loading...

I have gutted everything possible, I have not unloaded lm-sensors or hddtemp and I am pretty sure I could get below 100 then.

For Xfce, this is impressive.

Here is a screenie of just my startup of 2 conky's and Tint2 at 123 MiB .. Showing 129 because of the screenshot app.

What does it consume running a couple of apps (for example my test would be mpd+ncmpcpp).
Is that 32bit or 64bit?
Crunchy+xfce?

GMusicBrowser with 60,000 songs loaded brings it to 200 MiB

Terminal + SpaceFm is 165 MiB

Right now with IceWeasel and 2 tabs and 8 Add Ons + Flash it is at 425 MiB

64bit

Slim purged - not as slim as he thought!

Now RAM usage @ absolute idle 62MB cool cool cool
RAM usage with my little test apps mpd+ncmpcpp running radio stream 'lounge radio' = 82MB! cool cool

'free -m'..a little later @ absolute idle

Small ongoing problem with cb-exit and freedesktop / consolekit permissions (working on it)
For the meantime, I have added direct commands for logout,reboot and shutdown to openbox menu...

Here are the mods I made for tty1 console automatic login to x.
As much for my reference as other Crunchbangers;

sudo nano /etc/inittab (change from run level 2 to run level 5)

# The default runlevel.
id:5: initdefault:

sudo nano ~/.profile (add the following: courtesy http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ager-yay/)

That's Debian with openbox and it uses 23 MB of RAM after boot. I think I could get it under 20 MB, but I can't be bothered with that. There is no point, really.

I wonder how someone came up with that info ?
Seeing that the Initial Distrowatch release for CRUX was 10/2001 and Arch 3/2002 ... 5 months apart.
Close time line for a "Great Grand pappy"
