I was checking out what sensors I had available to show in a conky and I want to make sure Im reading this correctly.
Heres the sensors output

(crit = +255.0°C, hyst = +253.0°C) sensor = transistorOk I understand the voltage, fan and the fault on temp2 (I think its a bad sensor) but it is saying that for temp1, temp2 and temp3 that critical temps are 255.0°C? If google did their math right then thats close to 500°F. This doesnt sound right to me but maybe Im wrong........ it has happened before

After doing some homework I found the max operationg temp for this cpu is 71°C (159°F). Any idea why such a high max would be showing with the sensors output?

After doing some homework I found the max operationg temp for this cpu is 71°C (159°F). Any idea why such a high max would be showing with the sensors output?
I'm leaning towards that FAULT maybe causing that weird output.
Have your contacted DELL?
That's just a tad too hot for a computer!
225°C = 437°F -- still WAY to high!

im pretty sure k10-temp is cpu sensor for AMD cpu's not hard drive
i dont think lm sensors gives hd numbers, that would be through hddtemp
look in /etc/sensors3.conf
that is where the numbers come from
have a look here about renaming what you see in the sensors output

This is actually on a custom built machine (amd phenom II x4). Im having a similar issue on another machine. Really odd.

Big Bullshit. Its very hard to fry a cpu. Far before that happens your system would freeze and guess why there is a "Cpu Temp Alarm" Option in every fracking Bios. Under 80°C is not even close to dangerous.
Besides it seems you never done any overclocking, otherwise you'd know...
Same goes for GPU. My older passive Radeon went up to 120°C, which is not critical. After 5 years still working like a charm.
and btw: lwfitz should just check cpu temp in bios and see there that is it probably about 40-50C which is fine...

I think k10temp is the CPU, radeon-pci the GPU, and f71889ed-isa-0600 the general chip for monitoring temps across the mobo. It probably measures temps near the heating sinks and so on, so 225 is no problem.

Yes I did and Im not worried about the temps for stability reasons. I wanted to have the output in conky

Yeah I was mistaken in what I originally thought the placement of the sensors was, Remember that 225 is Celsius so that would be 437F......... Thats just a tad hot I believe.

For conky try {hwmon0 temp1}. That's the mean temperature as reported by the acpi subsystem.

Regardless of what you say, and the language you used to say it, I still have the 'burned out' AMD Athlon64 here that I had to replace. Also I don't have sound on by default, I have some really cheap speakers that hiss and crackle more then they should.
And you are correct, I have never done any over clocking, never seen a need to.
My CPU went from a safe zone to red hot (seen in conky) in a split second, and my computer died!
Now that's my experience, and it cost me way too much at a time I couldn't afford it because there were no CPU's available with the "939 Socket". If you had read my post you would have seen that because of health problems I was having it never dawned on me that the volcanic ash falling on us was affecting my computer - I was more worried about my lungs thank you!
So no bull about it, to quote you:

you didn't say it's impossible! Guess what ... I fried mine! If you have a problems with that please take it somewhere else. Every now and then I have to plug into a machine to help me breath - long term affects from the ash.

Thanka guys. Maybe I wasnt totally clear. I know how to get conky to show my CPU temp but the sensor output is not correct. So no matter what I put into conky (if its pulling the lm-sensors info) will show the wrong info. It will show temps that are not correct.
So I guess is there a way to pull temp info without using lm-sensors?

Total brain fart...,,,, I was bouncing between computers (both amd) and got their ouputs mixed up. Sorry about that. GPU and CPU temps on this one seem ok, maybe a little low, but close enough.
The main issue with this one was the max temp was saying like 450F and that didnt seem right.
I will post the output of the other AMD computer when I get back over to it. That one is really wonky. Thanks for the help.

As I linked, it's a driver issue, nothing to worry about. You can sed and grep and pipe the other temps to conky.

When I run sensors in a terminal my readings are within .5 degrees from my hwmon conky readings.
Could it be a difference in MB's?
Do some MB's have sensors for different parts of the MB?
Just trying to understand all I can.
