Hello all,
Each time I open the property window for a printer I get the following message
Option 'printer-resolution' has value '(unknown IPP tag)' and cannot be edited. This was not the case in statler.
I tracked down the issue and it seems to be a known upstream bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=656640.
I solved the problem by downloading the latest pycups ubuntu package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-cups and installed with
sudo gdebi python-cups_1.9.62-0ubuntu1_i386.debAs I have no experience with debian packaging, I have the following questions :
1) Did I do the right thing to get rid of the bug in Waldorf? (I don't like to manually install package, is there an alternative?)
2) How can I tell the debian maintainer to include a newer version of pycups in the testing repos?
3) Can we have inside waldorf repos an upgraded version of pycups?
Thanks in advance and sorry if these questions are not relevant here (I'm new to the forum!).

Yes that's a bug with python-cups version available on Debian repositories.
The solution is to either wait for an updated package from Debian or upgrade to a third party package like you did, which also is available from the bug report you posted. However, installing third party packages may be dangerous and it may be prone to fail or give future compatibility/stability issues. I choose to wait, since the bug isn't critical.
The bug report is from January 2012, I really don't understand why Debian takes so long to update this, but they are informed, at least, since then. You can however, add your voice to the bug report, like I did.

Thanks for your reply.

In the bug report, you said you cannot even print. Isn't it critical enough?!
BTW I did not manage to print either on some printer (though I cannot confirm it is linked to the bug or to the ppd I used). I cannot test right now with the upgraded pycups.

That was unrelated, although at time I did not know that. That was related to a bug/bad install of hplip and its drivers for my hp printers. That I manage to solve but the python-cups bug still persists and it only results on that error message "Option 'printer-resolution' has value '(unknown IPP tag)' and cannot be edited." so it isn't critical but annoying.

Serves me right for not checking the forums first, 'cos I've just resolved this one myself... the hard way!

I'm also getting the same error, when trying to get a Brother HL-2280DW to print.
The inability to print is a big issue for me right now - are there any temporary work arounds out there?

You are getting the same output and identify pycups as the culprit? Have you tried to get the newest pycups package, and do you have the necessary filters and drivers?
