Hello!

Hi everyone,

I just installed Statler on my main machine. I decided to ditch Ubuntu after I realised that since I've started using Awesome Window Manager, I now do just about everything through a terminal and barely use any of Ubuntu's 'user-friendliness' features. So when it came time to reinstall, sticking with Ubuntu would mean either putting my laptop's modest resources under unnecessary strain, or going through the hassle of un-installing all sorts of things right after installing the OS.

#! seemed the obvious choice.

So far I'm liking it. Easy installation process, quick boot times, and everything I need just an 'apt-get install' away.

I am having a few minor teething issues: Tapping my touchpad doesn't click any more, which I miss. My reading suggests this can be fixed by changing Synaptic touchpad settings in Xorg conf, though I've yet to try it because the last time I touched xorg.conf, terrible, terrible things happened. Also, I used to rely on Nautilus to auto-mount removable drives, but Thunar doesn't seem to be doing that. What do crunchbangers use for auto-mount?

Also do you (we?) have a better name than 'crunchbangers'? Because it... it sounds somehow wrong.

Re: Hello!

HI,

Welcome to this forum, robertskmiles. Hope you enjoy your stay here.

For the touchpad problem, see this thread:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … in-screen/

I am not using thunar myself, but that problem pops up quite often. Try searching the forum or wait until someone more knowledgeable steps in.

Agreed, I do not suppose "bangers" sounds any better... big_smile

Thanks for the tip. Something like that occurred to me shortly after posting actually. I wasn't really intending to ask questions when I started the post, but thinking about summarising my #! experience so far brought the issues to mind. I was sort of thinking out loud; I don't really mind if they aren't responded to here, I can google.

I think the 'Crunchbangers' question belongs here rather than support though. Because, I just made that up and it sounds kind of insulting so I don't want to use it if there's a better term. What do #! users like to call themselves? Now there's a question that's hard to google.

Edit:

Here, in England we call sausages "Bangers" smile

Sausages and old cars. Possibly equivalent to 'beaters' in american english. Edit2: Is there anything wikipedia can't do? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decrepit_car#Terminology
