Hello there, I thought a how-to and support thread to build spectrwm 2.0+, announced 22nd Aug 2012, would be useful.
It would be neat if the process can be put into a script to semi/fully automate building from source. But so far I found some tweaking was required.
Dependencies
sudo apt-get install "^libxcb*..*-dev$" libx11-xcb-dev libxrandr-dev libxft-dev libxt-devThere is a missing libxcb-utils which I simply cannot find in the repos. One work around is to use a modified Makefile, alternatively install libxcb-utils from source. I detailed both these steps here.
Build from the "spectrwm/linux" directory with "make".
I'm not guru at building from source, so I'd love to hear if I could have done any of this better.
Cheers

It looks like libxcb-util0 is in wheezy and sid, but not squeeze.

A few people on the Arch board have built Spectrwm2.0, without much success (it segfaults). Do you have it running?

^ Some of those issues have been resolved in the git versions, I believe.
See here and here.
Latest git build is installed and running fine on my OpenBSD (Current) desktop.
Haven't yet built it on the netbook (Debian/GRML Unstable) as I prefer waiting for stable snapshots on that particular setup.

Thanks gutterslob. No I have not set it as my active WM yet pidsley, after updating to latest from git, the build fails once again. Thanks for pointing out the package-distro correlation.

I built the git version on debian testing yesterday. Running fine so far.

Ugh...what a hassle just to update on squeeze. Maybe I'll just stick with 1.0, it's working fine I guess.
We are a nice, friendly community here and I hope we stay that way.
