@wasabi: I'm intrigued; I always thought roundball was no less American than handegg. Though, as an American, I must admit I really never gave much thought to what sports *are* popular elsewhere...only one that gets much press here is International Rules Football...
By the way, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one taking a stroll down Amnesia Lane lately.
@foxytheoldone: Cool flag!

@Sage
Nobody I know dislikes the NBA. Some people might prefer other sport, but it's fairly easy to be entertained by basketball. It's fast paced, unlike cricket or baseball (both of which I don't have anything against, btw), it's got clear rules, unlike American Football (still no idea why you people call it football, though) and you don't have a bunch of dudes named "Junior" (their dads weren't the most imaginative people, were they) going in circles, like that Redneck Sedan Cup or whatever it's called.

^ thanks @rstrcogburn. No public gallery. I wish I could take credit for the photo, but I just happened across it while searching around. the interface is a modified version of statler theme.

@Slob: I really didn't mean any offense towards the NBA, or any other athletic association. (Except you're right about "Look Pa, a left turn!" - though I understand there's some strategy involved in that, and according to The Hyneman it does require considerable shoulder stamina to hold a line on those oval tracks...) It's just we Americans really don't think about what sports are watched in the rest of the developed world.

@Slob - it's still called football because American Football is derived from rugby (mostly). In the late 1800's Harvard and other universities that would become the Ivy League implemented some house rules that would eventually become American Football. I think the drop kick for 3 points (like rugby) is still an official part of the American rules but nobody does it any more.
