Re: LInux - The Origin

^ I do a fair amount of graphics and video work and while the improvements have been substantial, software in these areas for Linux still doesn't really compare to what I have access to in OS X. A little project of mine lately has been to review several of the main open source graphics programs that relate to photography/image editing. Products like Gimp and Darktable are excellent but they lack features that you come to rely upon for the sort of results I'm looking for. Anyway, I think I've wandered off-topic enough smile

Very nice.
Thanks for posting.

Ironic, maybe. But not out of the ordinary. Your Middle-Finger Kernel supremo also codes on a Mac quite often. He might even be using Intel's compiler when no one's looking.

Agreed. While there have been improvements, Linux still has a long way to go on this front. The other factor is that the labs we'd usually work with to get stuff printed/prototyped tend to also rely the same mac/Windows only software. On the other hand, Linux does work better/faster for content rendering.

Macs for Photoshop, In-Design, Illustrator, Painter, Z-Brush....etc
Linux for Houdini, Mari, Massive, Nuke, V-Ray....etc.

Re: LInux - The Origin

Cool animation and super awesome sound effects, but for me, this is very, very confusing...

That is the strangest accent... Asian? Eastern Bloc?

What does "So come, and raise with us!" mean?

Isn't "I + You" already we? Can we simplify this formula to "We = Linux"? tongue

No offense meant, but the vid's too vague for me. And I agree with Awebb's implication that a video promoting Linux should use Linux software for its production.

Re: LInux - The Origin

There's definitely some Engrish/Swedlish kind of thing going on there.  I think "raise" may be an example; from the context, it looks like they meant "rise".  As for "I + YOU + WE", I think "you" was intended as second-person singular, while "we" may be a collective second-person plural of which "I" and "you" are only a part.

(EDIT:  Obviously "we" is first-person plural, not second-person.  Oops.)

And I think that the best tools available, regardless of the software platform, should be used.  If an American commando wants a reliable, effective machine gun, he won't care that the AK-47 was developed in Soviet Russia.

it wasn't bad, but it seems to dark and gritty for linux, especially for what it is talking about.

No, Obviously a subliminal move to position Linux in a favorable light with Associate partners.
Or... maybe it is just ironic..

Re: LInux - The Origin

I agree with FiniteStateMachine. To be honest I also disliked the fact that a video talking for linux was totaly made
with tools designed only for mac and windows.

Anyway still gj, +1 for the effot cool

Re: LInux - The Origin

I think vlahonick is onto something.  (Or maybe I'm just on something.)  Since Linux users by and large tend to be multi-platform users, and since, for the most part, the best-known and best-understood video editors are "made for Mac", the Mac platform can become a kind of golden hammer for video editing tasks.  It would be great to see something similar to this that can have a "created entirely with free, open-source software" footnote at the end.
