^_^ no doubt many have that preference, but for #!, seems like scrotwm would be the clear winner. i could see a blackbox & dwm sort of thing going hand in hand, and openbox and scrotwm. the point being, more easy configurability.
Oh, I agree, dwm shouldn't be prepackaged anywhere, since the only proper way is to download it via mercurial.
scrotwm is nice, it's like a dwm for Windows users.

Subscribed! Not sure if that means I endorse the petition. I use to build my own Debian so I have nothing personally from it if included in #!. But why not. I am a big fan of Spectrer and DWM.

curious. like what? i can't imagine what that could be... i run everything and anything in tiling wms
Not saying stuff won't work. It's just I'd rather run (lighter) alternatives to what comes with #!

i strongly disagree. this IS feedback, and it IS a suggestion.
I disagree and it was moved. End of story.

FWIW here's my view on this one. Scrotwm like many other wm's is a great environment. It is easily added post install but I'm not sure it fits in with what CrunchBang is. From my perspective CrunchBang is not the minimalist distro that many people think it is. To be precise it is described on the homepage as:
...offering a great blend of speed, style and substance. ... it is highly customisable and provides a modern, full-featured GNU/Linux system without sacrificing performance
I don't think the words modern and full featured without sacrificing performance describe scrotwm but that is just my view
Honestly, I think there would be more likelihood of the Xfce build making a return before something like this was seriously considered.
It would make a nice community project though

^ What Omns says. If I remember correctly (I read it somewhere when I first joined the forums) an early version of Crunchbang also shipped with Scrotwm. How many users actually used that? (any older members can answer that?)
I think only the "diehard" bunch of us regular forumers use those 'different' tiling window managers. Don't forget that there's thousands of people also using Crunchbang, but don't use the forum. I don't think they have ever even heard of Scrotwm.
Again, my opinion on these "include this and that": it can easily be added yourself. If you want to use an advanced wm such as a tiling wm, you will probably know how to install it yourself.

It was DWM that came included with #! 9.04. Can't remember if it came with the 8.10 build or not. ScrotWM was way too obscure back then.

Oh, well. It came with a tiler that basically no one used

I absolutely agree with this. It is like it is a cult classic to be become as minimal as possible, which is fine.. It's just that it is not what CrunchBang is.

I don't have the intelligence (or time) to learn a programming language or figure out how to get any of the tiling WM's to autostart my applications, but after using tiling for a while, I just can't go back to anything else. Having tiling work out of the box with things like network manager, dropbox, battery notification, etc. would be GREAT!

As I recall, I was inspired into scrotwm/spectrwm by all of @Gutterslob's well colorized and funky screenshots
I manage very well without a panel now, yet found bmpanel2 and tint2 still work okay. conky too, but will do some more testing with once I have my new machine installed and built the latest WM.
