I'm loving this service on my Mac, what does anyone else think about it? Also has anyone ran this using the Linux opera client?
I think its about as interesting as IM file transfers. Id rather use a file-hosting service like DivShare and just send the download link to the person. Said person can then download the file whenever they want, even when Im offline.
BTW if you wish to contact me, send me an e-mail instead of a PM.
It seems very interesting for people that don't have the technical know how to set up themselves, or the time. There are more powerful tools in each category that it covers that you can set up on your own, but having them all in one place with easy setup is kinda nice.
I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.
kind of cloud computing in reverse. I see several benefits.
It's free - no hosting fees.
You can set it up locally, without having to wrestle with some online web hosting panel - ie ease of use.
You can control, or at least, feel as though you control, access in a more intimate way
You can put huge collections online, which you just wouldn't be able to upload due to size, eg your music collection.
Easy to run web services (forums, etc) without special hosting requirements and technical setup - ie increased diversity of services that are wihtin your ability.
The one major downside is you need to leave your computer on, web connected, and accessible. I would think the ability to "sync" your stuff to a server would solve that issue for some uses.
I expect someone to come up with an "intercom" web service, so that you can talk to someone through their web site. ie the "Lounge" feature will become a voice-conference. Sure skype does the job already, but people are lazy, right? Why use skype when I can just click the link, and it's a lot easier to co-ordinate when you just tell everybody to go to a particular place for the conference.

Yes the one issue is YOUR machine has to be on and connected to the web to serve pages or files, my pages seem to be hosting just fine with the machine sleeping but my profile (Max OSX) active and Opera running.
