Re: New website: help test the registration system

Interesting. I'd never even heard of Open ID before seeing this. I don't have profiles or accounts with Google, Yahoo, or any of those others. Am I that primitive?

OK. I just signed in after creating an account with myid.net. It seems to have worked.

You are not primitive, you are smart (and blessed). I'm considering deactivating my google account due to the recent advances at "personal information archiving" department.

You will need an existing OpenID account to register your username. The following providers are currently supported: Google, Yahoo, Ubuntu SSO, Launchpad. If anyone uses a different provider and they would like me to add support for it, please state the provider -- if there is enough interest, I will see what I can do.

So... I'm guessing the list of providers is restricted to "trusted ones" as a measure to fight spam? Because I thought the whole point of OpenID was to allow people to use any account provider without having to individually add support for each one.

Re: New website: help test the registration system

Hi all!

Haven't been around much lately as I am rather busy right now. I finally managed to sign in (phew) by registering an account at myID.net (yes, I have jumped from the Google ship also).

I still use #! every day though, looking forward to the new site and all.

Take care, bangers!

Is the Open ID actually effective against spam?
I thought the only cure for spam was to slice the spammers fingers off and feed them to the rats.

Re: New website: help test the registration system

I had trouble getting things to work as I use an addon that blocks referrer information. When turned off, I was able to get to some of these sites.

I dislike the idea of using a google account. I'm not too fond of using any other accounts either, but well, I searched my email and it turns out I have an openid account from stackexchange. I'm fine with using that for signing up here.

Any chance of adding stack exchange as an openid provider (or is that not even needed? I'm very unclear on this whole openid business).

Re: New website: help test the registration system

Here is the OpenId site that explains it all.

FYI myID.net is used by a lot of folks who do not trust the googs of the world...

Re: New website: help test the registration system

The new registration was pretty straight forward, it does not favor Capitals in usrename,  too bad!  ;^)

Where is the Proper place to give some feedback on the new " backport'ed"  image releases ?

Thanks,
Erasmus

Re: New website: help test the registration system

googlemail vs gmail

just tried to log in with my google account. The problem is that I have created the forum account with xyz@gmail.com. After the new login i get the message that not account was found with xyz@googlemail.com. This should definetly be fixable on the Google side.

Does anyone know how to change the data that comes from the google openID provider ? The alternative "reply-to adress" didn't work. Is this fixable on the crunchbang side ?

Re: New website: help test the registration system

Edit: I just realized there is a 'Subscribed threads' view in your profile page. D'oh! All this time... lol
In this case an easily accessible link to this view would be perfect smile

One feature that I sorely miss is a simple list of your subscriptions, with a link to jump to new posts. Currently there is a 'New Posts' link in the forum view, but combining that with a list of your subscribed threads would be super smile

I suffer from 'reply to topic' backlog in my email, ideally I'd like to constrain this to the site exclusively. smile

i don't know what the issue might be but as it seems google and yahoo are fine so if
u have an account on this try registering using it.
and i think that if u have google or yahoo is like having openid

check this http://openid.net/get-an-openid/

Re: New website: help test the registration system

i have google also. sure. But we should test the logins. And if ppl are writing there is no problem with google i will test another option to give Phil feedback.

The difference is google, yahoo aso. use a E-Mail-Address to login. MyOpenID use only a Alias-Name because you can assign many E-Mail-Adresses to MyOpenID.

Maybe this is the Problem from the login....

Re: New website: help test the registration system

After a little search on google i found:

http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions … penid-com/

The login to stackoverflow with MyOpenID is still working.

If you go to the MyOpenID site an follow the tutorial you will be redirected to sites that are no more exists.

This all looks not very trustworthy.

i would remove the option for login with MyOpenID...
