share wireless connection over ethernet cable

hi,

this is a way I have found to share the wifi connection from one pc to another via ethernet cable. In my case the first pc is a laptop running Statler and the second is a desktop running Waldorf live.
It is very simple:
- open "Edit Connections" window;
- in the "Wired" tab, add a new connection choosing "Shared to other computers" in "IPv4 Settings" tab and apply;
- connect the two pcs with an ethernet crossover cable;
(reboot might be required)
- Done! smile

Now I am wondering how some of you would do the same thing CLI.. wink

Re: share wireless connection over ethernet cable

If you have wireless - why do you not connect the second pc also to the wireless accesspoint?

From CLI?

sed 's/#net.ipv4.ip_forward=1/net.ipv4.ip_forward=1/g' /etc/sysctl.conf

Should to that...

But i'm not a linux pro. i have not tested this... smile

Because the second pc can be connected only through a wired connection...

Btw, thanks for the suggestion for CLI, I will try it out.. wink

Because the second pc can be connected only through a wired connection...

e.g. netbook with wifi card, desktop with no wifi?

Just out of interest, do you set the IP's dynamically or statically?

...yet another reason I miss my netbook (it wuz booknapped)...now I know I could be using that as a network node for my desktop instead of that K*ty P*rry Belkin wifi dongle that's forcing me to stay on the 3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 kernel...

...sorry, just indulging in a brief wallow. sad
