So that's my explanation. If you are intrigued, read more and try it out for a month. If not, whatevs, as long as we can agree that Crunchbang is awesome and continue about our business.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't accusing you. I've been on a similar diet plan myself lately (though I should probably eat more fruit), and the benefits are obvious. It's just that I've also seen a tendency to go to the crazy side by strict adherents of all diet plans, and haven't sen evidence of the Paleo diet working for a statistically relevant sample.

Yes, I am definitely not strict. I'm going to see the new Dark Knight movie in a few hours and there's no way in hell I am going without a small popcorn. My daily beer and shot of bourbon isn't very paleo either!

Health moan:
My lungs hurt, hayfever is playing up - the grass is being cut outside today..
I am having to cancel my physio appointment because it's 31 degrees today and it would kill me to go outside. No word of a lie..

Here's a good overview that was in response to the terrible US News Article:

Todays progress:
Spoke to my GP and she has referred me to a new consultant. I will be assessed for Home Oxygen.
Although I do not relish the idea of having to rely on Oxygen tanks, it should at least make me feel better temporarily.
It's the not knowing that is doing my head in currently. I need an X-ray and CT Scan so that I know what is going on in there.
I know my lungs are degrading because although I am getting lots of oxygen in, my lungs are not using it - according to the Spiro tests I did on 16th. Also the short walk test when I desaturated to 86% in 30 seconds.

How was the Dark Knight?
How much bad stuff did you eat and drink?
I'll be going to see my sister tomorrow evening and have a few GnT's. I'll need it for the conversation I am going to have with her.
My family do not know that I might not have that long left. They know my lungs were bad enough for hospital, that I am allergic to my birds. Kept the worst away from them til now.

I do kettlebell workouts using a kettlebell and videos from www.kettleworx.com. I originally started back in January 2011, did them for about eight weeks, and then got lazy. I began doing the workouts again about three weeks ago because I felt out of shape. I like doing the kettlebell workouts because it's something you can do in your home and the workouts are very good.
If you have the time, participating in a martial art is also a very good workout. I used to participate in Tae Kwon Do, but stopped doing it because it was too much of a time commitment.
[07/27/2012 edit] I remember now. I stopped my initial kettlebell workout routine because I had back issues and no, my back issue wasn't the result of the kettlebell workouts. It took a few months before my back issue resolved itself, but by then the inertia of not working out and working overtime took over until recently.

Well, I just got back from a doctors appointment. It turns out that I have an infection and might possible have gallbladder stones too.
Being sent for an ultrasound for confirmation and have a weeks worth of antibiotics.
Explains my roaring temperature, the pain in my side and generally aching all over today, feeling crappy.
I am disappointingly going to have to postpone the onehundredpushups program before it's off the ground.
Not stopping walking or yoga though.
Bit upset. Feel like my body is letting me down.
Marianne,
Before you make any decisions about gallbladder surgery, I'm going to send you a link via PM (don't want everyone hitting my online storage account) of an article that appeared in the recent issue of Well Being Journal; www.wellbeingjournal.com.

Thank you that was incredibly thoughtful of you. I have saved the article and had a quick skim. I will re-read it after my ultrasound. The bits I did read do lead me to think I have a gall-bladder problem as I already have many of those deficiencies and the pain, I don't think it's working properly at all.
I got my appt letter (for scan) through today and it's on 9th August. More waiting..

I am not sure it will be a big CT scan machine. I think it might be a hand held but it's a long time (at least 10 years) since I had an ultrasound so I am not sure what they have these days.
Happy Birthday for 9th Aug in case I forget

I use kettlebells too, the "gym in a box". You save a lot of time because it is very intense to train with them, perfect for lazy people like me. You save a lot of money too because you can scrap your gym membership, you can do the exercises at home, which again saves a lot of time, which you'd waste on your way to the gym, (this removes another obstacle from actually exercising). I recommend going directly to the source, the guy who popularized it in the west, instead of a "me too"-knockofff, you find his book here:
http://www.dragondoor.com/shop-by-department/books/b33/
he's got a book especially for women too:

you'll get kettlebells on ebay, forget plastic buy the ones made from metal. i recommmend starting small (it's really intense) and work up gradually.

Kettlebells are great! A lot of people think they aren't very different from dumbells, but the offset center of mass really adds a lot of versatility. And you don't need nearly as heavy a kettlebell as you would a dumbell for the same exercises. The only reason I don't have any at home is that I've had a full set of dumbells since before I really knew about them. If I were starting fresh I'd certainly go with a few pairs of kettles.
One of the unorthodox training tools I use is a 12 lb sledgehammer. I only use it for its intended purpose in the winter when the ground is frozen and covered with snow since they don't like someone bashing holes in the dirt in city parks around here. But otherwise I use it as a weight training tool. You can do all sorts of fun movements and the long handle lets you really amp up the resistance by holding it further from the head. One of my favorite things to do is what I call spear thrust lunges. There are tons of sledgehammer workout videos on Youtube and elsewhere.

You're welcome. I've subscribed to the magazine for about one year, but I've learned a lot from reading it already; e.g. coconut water, coconut oil, fats are good for you, etc. They have some eastern philosophy and psychobabble articles which I don't care for, but overall I highly recommend the magazine. A former coworker introduced me to the magazine.

I second Shinkanzen's recommendation to start out small and working up gradually. The weight may not seem like much, but because of the different movements and the kettlebell design, the workout will kick your butt.
@Shinkanzen...I'm familiar with the Dragon Door site. However, I think www.kettlebellinc.com is a better site. I plan on buying my future kettlebells from Kettlebell Inc. once I max out on the kettlebells from Kettleworx. The kettlebells from Kettleworx max out at 25 lbs. The kettlebells from Kettleworx are very nice. They're metal with a vinyl coating on the bell part of the kettlebell. One bad thing about buying kettlebells from Kettleworx though is the cost of shipping.
@brianguten...The sledgehammer workout might be similar to working out with Indian clubs.

It is similar though the weight distribution is very different so you'd want a lighter hammer to do the same sorts of stuff you can do with clubs. And rather than buying clubs online you can walk down the street to your local hardware store and buy a hammer for less than $20. I get a lot of weird looks when I go to the nearby park with my hammer -- I wonder if there would be more or less with a set of Indian clubs. They aren't common at all here.
Medicine balls are another very simple and versatile workout toy. Simply throw one in the air and catch it. Then try it with one hand. Do a jumping squat when you throw. Toss it back and forth in different ways with a friend. Throw it to the ground as hard as you can and catch the rebound. Sometimes when I have my hammer out too I'll practice my croquet shot when I get tired and need a break.

I got a letter this morning to say I have an assessment for "Portable Oxygen" on 7th August.
On the one hand it would be good to have as I would be able to get about more and on the other, it admits to a decline in health if I am approved for it.

On the one hand it would be good to have as I would be able to get about more and on the other, it admits to a decline in health if I am approved for it.
But, admitting to that decline could improve your life ("life" here not being the years of age, but the time you actually spent doing things you love) Ignoring the decline would mean you can't go out that often, which you like by seeing the amount of pictures you post in the Area You Live In thread.
We want a happy, healthy Marianne!

That is very true Unia. I am tackling agoraphobia currently and because I am scared of getting short of breath and being stranded it's harder to manage going out alone.
If I have to have it then I will accept it.

we might need to start a separate 'share you mental issues' thread to collectively tackle that agoraphobia, and whatever other issues people are having. that will be a really fun thread
