Got an 1171 here I've been trying several distros of Linux on, and I got crunchbang to work. But I got a couple teething issues.
The hardware rundown
Thinkpad 1171
PIII CuMine 750
512mb ram
12gb hdd
ALI1535 audio
I think the video is a Trident Cyberblade 4mb agp 2x
anyway, first issue is I can't force larger than 800 x 600 60z in xrandr, the laptop supports 1024 x 768. do I need to load firmware for it or something?
The second is the internet browser does not come up at all, though I am connected to a wireless access point, I believe the wireless is a Dell 1300 or 1400 internal I yanked from the parts bin here.

Nipped the whole thing in the bud, put XP on that machine and am running Crunchbang on a slightly better but much more popular hardware setup, a Panasonic Toughbook 1ghz P3 with 512mb RAM, in live mode none the less. Now I have a full screen and wireless!
Very very cool now that everything works, think I finally found my mobile linux box. This really is a great OS even in live mode.
Apparently this is an issue native to the 1171 and many other distros of linux......I put Debian on it and it did the same thing, also on Phlak, Puppy and Backtrack, at least this one I didn't have to load firmware on my wireless card.
3rd day on Linux and I'm loving it......might try going a week without using Windoze at all. So far I've got Crunch on this, and Debian on another desktop I have. Very very cool, I like.
