The tale of the USD $6 Netbook... My friend bought an Acer Aspire One ZG5 (Intel Atom w/ 1G RAM, XP SP3) a while back. Within 3 months XP wouldn't boot and he decided to buy a laptop as he realized the netbook was too small and weak for what he needed it for. He's been too busy to bother with putting it on E-bay, so he offered to give it to me, with a nice Body Glove soft case, but he misplaced the AC adapter and can't find it anywhere. I found a replacement adapter on Amazon for $6 w/ free delivery, it was at my door in 5 days, I slapped Xfce/Compiz on it...
Compiz keyboard shortcuts FTW, I'm happier than a pig in mud.

@pidsley
It was when I had a bad xdefaults theme until I fixed it.
Much better.

I was thinking about it, but on a 9" screen I'm mostly using fullscreen, and I can control placement and sizing via the keypad when I'm not in fullscreen. Compiz does window rmatching anyway, so I could go with fixed window placement if I wanted. I'm finding Compiz ideal for this box, now that I have my shortcuts set up.
@ivanov, cheers! It's the same as my last desktop scot, with an added panel and minus transparency.

awesome screenie!
for argb transparency, are u using the erik b andersen builds for ubuntu? compiz for the blur? which gtk-window-decorator theme is that?

Like the way conky matches the gtk theme and the common purple color scheme among everything. You even got the wallpaper nailed! Awesome!

Thank you.
Yes to Andersen's PPA, the Lucid build works with squeeze. Yes to Compiz for blur, I find transparency with no Gaussian blur unusable. The window decorations are via Emerald, again I used the Lucid packages as Debian has none. The original Emerald theme is Soothe by lassekongo83 on Deviantart, I've modified it quite a bit. The GTK is my own too, based on Shiki-colors.
Here's my tutorial for a basic setup, it's old but ignore the opening disclaimer as it still works...

@marianne: thanks
I think the song fits the theme pretty well
@Dobbie: that's an awesome desktop, I love the dock. This is it, you are the dock master!
Thanks Kexo
Dock Master? I like the sound of that.
@Marc: Cheers Mate.
@hhh: Thanks man, I wish I felt better. Maybe Koleo has contracted what I have?

@hhh: And I don't like long menus
That's why I put everything I don't actually use a lot into submenus. The screenshot submenu is a CB default though
@benny: Pulled out of the ass, eh? Doesn't matter, it goes well with the greens and the whole 3 terminal apps I use
Ok then, it's settled. I'll modify the color scheme so it matches the other greens more, create ten more submenus, and then post a new screenshot.
@damo: Thanks mate

r6j6rsh1gh0sh,
very nice, how do you make tint2 to use icons nicely? (i get half of awoken and half of gnome ones - on waldorf)

Well, this is what I managed with the colors..
I'll probably have to make a weechat theme or something to make it more readable..

if restarting tint2 doesn't work, try logging out and in again. you might have to update the icon cache (haven't done it myself and i don't know how to do it on debian. had to do it once when i was on arch
) if that doesn't work go for the big gun -reboot
. also use lxappearance (i'm on statler and in the default openbox menu, it's settings>user interface settings) to install the tarballs for the icons first. If that doesn't work try manually pasting(have to be root) the extracted icon folders to /usr/share/icons (for access to all users).
btw, i could'nt get Qt apps like opera,clementine,smplayer to use awoken though. So can't help if those are the apps whose tint2 task icons you find, are out of whack.
hope it works out with your setup.
