Remember how bad the original color television signal really was? Everything was green.
How about rabbit ear antennas? Or just going outside to twirl the roof-top antenna to improve the TV signal, and having a relay from child to child to parent from outside in.
Little more...little more...whoa, back...back...hold it.
Because of that I've learned at appreciate cable TV. To old and sore to be up on the roof anymore, anyway.

^ We had a motorized antenna twirler.
Talk about schmancy! (This was well into the 1990's, when practically everybody else had cable...)

My grand mother had a wood stove, but had wood delivered (in a city), and I remember an oil fired space heater in her house too.
Outhouses ... loved pushing them over. Got this one guy twice! He lived right at the junction of a "T" intersection of a back alley - between a church and a Chinese corner store. Hopped the fence in the dark, ran up about 10 paces and pushed it. Third time was a charmer!! Hugh and had to go swimming in the local lake - he had moved it forward a few feet! Kids don't get to experience that today!
OH YEA!!! - rabbit ears - with steel wool balls on them

On a happier note: open windows and doors. Even here in the South there was, by and large, no such thing as air conditioning until much later for private dwellings so windows and doors were always open. And unlocked. Night and day. I can remember going to see some little boy or girl, and finding no one home, I'd go in and grab something to eat, then leave. The next time you saw them, you told them what you'd eaten and they would stop by your house soon afterwards to get a snack of equal or greater value -- it was just like that. It gave turnabout is fair play a meaning this country may never know again.
The worst thing you had to worry about, besides stubbing your toes while going barefoot were rattlesnakes and the old woman who always seemed to be listening in on the party line Looking back I wonder the greater danger -- the snake or the nosy neighbor.

Or coming home and finding your friends sitting at the table having a snack waiting for you. - YEA, those days are gone for good!
partylines - man oh man how many times I got my backside tanned for listening in.
"What are you doing - that wasn't our ring!"
next day it was my turn, "How come YOU can listen in!"

Got this from my cousin ... she really knows how it is:
IF MY BODY WAS A CAR..
If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model.
I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ...
But that's not the worst of it.
My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close
My traction is not as graceful as it once was.. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather..
My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.
It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.
But here's the worst of it --
Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

If you were at someone's (friends or relatives) house or yard and you did something wrong . . . they had every right to 'spank' you and send you home.
And of you complained about it to your parents . . . they would give you another 'whipping'
I even got spanked, at school, by the principal.

Damn ... you bring up a good point! I don't remember any hill either?
Maybe life is like a valley. We start off going full steam ahead down one side and somewhere just after the bottom of the valley, the momentum slows down as we start up the other side. Until we come to a full stop, and damn it, I'm not at the top yet!
Start walkin' {huff} one foot {puff} in front {huff} of the {puff} other. Am I there yet!

Old Coot Test
You know that you are an Old Coot when
You sit on a rocking chair and can't get it going.
Your knees buckle but your belt won't.
Your back goes out more than you do.
You hear a Beatles' song from your youth on the Muzak in the elevator.
Everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt doesn't work.
Your little black book contains only names ending in "M.D."
You can't wait for Baskin-Robbins to market an oat-bran ice cream.
You know all the answers, but nobody asks you the questions.
The gleam in your eye is from the sun hitting your bifocals.
You sink your teeth into a steak, and they stay there.
You need glasses to find your glasses.
You know what LSMFT means.
You finally reach the top of the ladder and find it leaning against the wrong wall.
You're still chasing women, but can't remember why.
Your mind makes contracts that your body can't meet.
The little gray-haired lady you help across the street is your wife.

I remember traveling across USA in 1942 and seeing Mt. Rushmore.
I remember listening to our radio to:
The Shadow, Tom Mix, and Amos and Andy
I remember the atomic bombs used against the Japanese.
Oh-Oh I forgot to take my clothes out of the dryer!!!
Got to go.

Just my opinion:
But, if you can't remember if you're old enough to be here ... you probably are.

HEY!!!!!
Couple of months and no posts in here! And due to the nature of this thread ... no I refuse ... forgot right!
I am not forgetful
Three ladies were discussing the travails of getting older. One said, "Sometimes I catch myself with a jar of mayonnaise in my hand, while standing in front of the refrigerator, and I can't remember whether I need to put it away, or start making a sandwich."
The second lady chimed in with, "Yes, sometimes I find myself on the landing of the stairs and can't remember whether I was on my way up or on my way down."
The third one responded, " Well, ladies, I'm glad I don't have that problem. Knock on wood," as she rapped her knuckles on the table, and then said, "That must be the door, I'll get it!"
