I. Introduction
=====================
A lot of people enjoy crunchbang and that's good. However, some chaps have installed crunchbang and realized that they need something lighter for older hardware or personal reasons. Anyhow, I have created this tutorial and all the scripts inside it to save the user time, despair, and other traumatic symptoms from doing stuff manually.
II. Prerequisite Checklist
================================
Don't leave home without one.
1. Know how to install stuff from CLI
2. Know how to read and edit files from CLI
3. Know how to troubleshoot problems
4. Be comfortable working with Testing/Unstable (Wheezy/Sid)
5. Agree with the Terms of Service
Difficulty = Easy
III. Terms of Service
========================
Here are some reminders to be aware of.
1. This guide was made with the intention of being used for crunchbang waldorf (Testing)
2. Please read the respective threads or the scripts themselves to find out what they do before executing any of them. Screenshots included in respective threads.
3. Scriptmaker/creator of this thread is not liable for any of the user's problems whatsoever.
4. .xinitrc and startx will be used exclusively to start xorg and whatever window manager you prefer.
5. Please post in the respective threads for user support.
I made these scripts to help people and to not cause turmoil among the community.
IV. Procedure
===================
1. Purge crunchbang apps and directories
wget -Nc http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14800/sfpi/sf-cb-lite.sh && chmod +x sf-cb-lite.sh && ./sf-cb-lite.shThis script will purge almost everything except openbox and tint2. This script will also download the post install scripts below and let you decide which one you want to install.
2. Use custom tailored automated scripts to install your preferred apps.
2.a. Use SF98 Post-Install Scripts
These scripts will install apps preferred by minimalistic users
sfpi_01.sh will install applications
sfpi_02.sh will import configs, settings, etc for those applications
2.a.1. Log in as root from tty1 (Ctrl/command + Alt + F1) and run sfpi_01.sh
./sfpi_01.sh2.a.2. Log in as regular user and run sfpi_02.sh
./sfpi_02.sh2.b. Install Crunchbang 9.04 apps recommended by MachineBacon
2.b.1 Run sfpi_mbcb_01.sh
./sfpi_mbcb_01.sh2.b.2 Refer to MachineBacon's thread for editing openbox configs
HOWTO: Get the 9.04-ish Terminal Apps + menu
2.c Install your apps manually
sudo apt-get install my-favorite-apps-of-all-time3. Enjoy your sytem
V. Last Thoughts
=================
As I have been burned before from misunderstanding, this might be my very last howto before I migrate all of my activity to my blog depending on the reception from here. Also, I will be unable to work more on the cb-lite script as I no longer have crunchbang on my computers (They all run SF98 debian). I am also busy with life.

hey, really cool Sunfizz! i just did a Sid-install and remembered some of your recommendations and scripts for purging bloat
- i am not quite the minimalist like you, but coming pretty close, so i'm considering testing out those scripts. and even if i decide not to in the end (in which case i'll do it all manually, which is kinda more of my thing, but okay), i loudly applaud your efforts in this. i hope i won't be the only one, and you won't feel chased away with pitchforks and whatnot to the sanctuary of your own personal blog, but instead decide to hang out here with us and have fun and build more cool stuff!

Sunfizz, just out of interset, and for anyone else out there, would downloading antiX-core (now based on Testing and libre[ish]) and adding the Crunchbang repos and some make-me-crunchbang scripts work?
antiX-core is smaller than Debian netinstall (c128MB [latest] versus c180MB), has some apps that netinst doesn't have that is useful IMO ie irssi, elinks and is also live.
I'm thinking long-term that lite crunchbangers may be can start off with antiX-core and build a lite cb out of it with cb scripts and repos.

I have built a system with antix-core and it works very well. I just haven't gotten arund to making a tutorial with it. Another problem I had with antix-core is that the grub menu refuses to remove the mepis sources despite removing the respective kernels after I upgraded to sid.

All you have to do is remove the entries just under gfxmenu /boot/grub/message down to ### BEGIN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST in menu.lst.

Thanks for your work,they have really helped.
