oh yes. I hated that in midori when using slitaz. the backspace key killed it randomly. nice if you type on forums. eventually I adapted to use left-key and use del instead of backspace. after I realised that, I installed another browser.

+1 for iceweasel btw

I remember I posted my experience with chrome vs iceweasel in another topic (the last statler release that came wih chrome). chrome tends/tended to use a lot of ram when opening a new tab, then reducing usage. iceweasel behaves better. on lower spec machines, this is sometimes crucial, because chrome might just hang for ages until it reduced memory usage.

Maybe you should try Iceape, it integrates the functionalities of Iceweasel and Icedove, plus a chat and an HTML editor...

I know this problem with midori, it just crashed without any reason, and believe me, I have really tried to love it, tried it in different versions etc. After a year I gave up on it.
The interesting thing is, that siduction ships Midori as their default browser in the LXDE edition, and it is rock stable. At least until now, having used it a few days, not a single crash.

Yeah, I know, but I have my preferences, I don't like thunderbird (and I tried very much to like it). Plus, IceApe is heavy on resources considering Opera...

I have  tried a lot of mail clients (Alpine - ok, too much time spent on configuration, Gnus - could't make a SMTP connection, Claws/Slypheerd - not as elegant, IceApe - too much slow and big memory overhead, Evolution - memory hog, etc.).

Right! But my cat is quite strange...I just tried Midori 4.3 on my Debian wheezy and it has no extentions nor bookmarks support...

^ Strange... Here in Frugalware i have the choice of cca. 16 extensions, configurable. And yes, Bookmarks (Import/Export) are there.

Milo, I will boot into Sid later and have a look. Keep you updated smile

Re: Chromium vs. Iceweasel

Hmmm...that's a tough question Core.  I like Chromium because it's true opensource.  However, I like Chrome for the built-in Flash, built-in PDF viewer, and built-in handling of AAC and MP3 codecs.  One last thing, I've used Chromium under CrunchBang and to clear all personal data requires going through the browser settings.  I haven't used Chrome in Linux, but I have used it in Windows and to clear all personal data, you just use the CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE key combination.

So, for all of the reasons referenced, I begrudgingly vote for Chrome.

Well, if you mean to clear all browsing data, just press Ctrl+H combo or click on the wrench icon and choose History...
As for me - I like both FF and Chromium. Even though FF wins because of a few addons without equivalent in Chromium. No need to include Google Chrome into CrunchBang - I prefer at least an illusion of anonymity (I don't even use google search most of the time) to built-in Flash (the one in #! works great), built-in PDF viewer (there are surely a few addons or extension, I just don't need this feature) and built-in codecs...
IMO only one thing speaks for Chrome against Chromium: as I said earlier in this topic you very rarely have the latest stable Chromium (v. 19 is out X v. 18 in sid repos), but you can always be up-to-date with Chrome.

Re: Chromium vs. Iceweasel

Okay, joining the discussion:
I was a happy Opera-user for some years now, but lately it crashes more and more, so I tried Chrome (canary).. which feels way faster, and I absolutely love the extensions.
I tried Firefox (nightly) for a while as well, but Chrome feels faster and the extensions seem better compatible throughout the versions..
The only things I miss are the Opera mouse-gestures and the feature, that Nightly didn't load all Tabs at once.. <__<

so, my vote goes for Chromium. I mean, it's FOSS after all! ^^'

Yeah Opera, that was such a great browser. But since v. 11 it has started crashing and by implementing new features they disabled a few older ones I liked. So I switched mostly to FF. But I wouldn't live without mouse gestures, so here are the alternatives:
- In FF install All-in-One Gestures addon - even better than the original Opera gestures!
- In Chromium go with Pig Toolbox extension. Just a little warning here - in linux the best way to use it is to choose as gesture trigger middle click instead of right click

Re: Chromium vs. Iceweasel

Iceweasel, because it's easier to customise (about:config) and because of the addons.

When I first installed #! I got Iceweasel and Chrome (and an 'Install Opera' menu item). I just installed Chromium to see how it differs from Chrome and was surprised it has it's own theme; instead of using the (default) #! theme it has a blue title bar with Windows-like buttons in the top-right corner!?

Also one of the things I disliked from the very beginning of trying Chrome/ium. But you can tweak it with some extensions and also look here:

Thanks for the link. Looks good, but it would be even better if Chromium would just nicely integrate with the rest of the system by default. Chrome does do this.

Choose "Use GTK theme" in the Chromium settings. I'm not sure under which tab it is, I haven't used Chrome in a while.

Cheers, that looks much better! "Use GTK Theme" is under Options / Personal Stuff / Appearance.
