You are not logged in.
This can happen immediately after login, or out of the blue when using the system normally.
The error message when trying to open any program is "Failed to execute child process, does not exist" or something along those lines.

This is a new SSD drive and I have only installed Waldorf 32 and 64-bit, the same problem occurs on both but it could be that the problem extends to any other OS.

What SSD do you have? What is the firmware version?

Try it in a live session of another distro, like Linux Mint or Fedora if you have one lying around.
Has it worked for you before without this problem? In other words, did this problem start when you installed Waldorf?
