My ncmpcpp config

I searched forum again and I didn't find a topic like this. If I missed again please notify me, then I'll move this post into it. lol

aatDuXMo.jpg

#
# ~/.ncmpcpp/config
#

# connection settings
mpd_music_dir = "/home/goku/music"

# song format
song_list_format = "{$8%n▕ $9}{$2%a - $9}{$4%t$9}|{$5%f$9}$R{$5▕ %b$9}{$8▕ %l$9}"

# various settings
autocenter_mode = "yes"
header_visibility = "yes"
progressbar_look = "::"
statusbar_visibility = "no"

# color definitions
main_window_color = "black"
main_window_highlight_color = "white"

Very basic config. Here it's you have to know when you making a config of a simple ncmpcpp.

song_list_format = "{$8%n▕ $9}{$2%a - $9}{$4%t$9}|{$5%f$9}$R{$5▕ %b$9}{$8▕ %l$9}"
SONG FORMAT

       For song format you can use:

        %l - length
        %f - filename
        %F - full path
        %a - artist
        %t - title
        %b - album
        %y - year
        %n - track number
        %g - genre
        %c - composer
        %p - performer
        %d - disc
        %C - comment
        %r - begin right alignment

For colours;

       Available values for colors:

        - 0 - default window color (discards all other colors)
        - 1 - black
        - 2 - red
        - 3 - green
        - 4 - yellow
        - 5 - blue
        - 6 - magenta
        - 7 - cyan
        - 8 - white
        - 9 - end of current color

Some usefull configs;

mpd_crossfade_time = SECONDS
volume_color = COLOR
state_line_color = COLOR
progressbar_color = COLOR
main_window_color = COLOR
active_window_border = COLOR
active_column_color = COLOR

#

#
##### music visualizer #####
##
## Note: In order to make music visualizer work you'll
## need to use mpd fifo output, whose format parameter
## has to be set to 44100:16:1. Example configuration:
## (it has to be put into mpd.conf)
##
##audio_output {
##        type            "fifo"
##        name            "My FIFO"
##       path            "/tmp/mpd.fifo"
##        format          "44100:16:1"
##}
##
#
visualizer_fifo_path = "/tmp/mpd.fifo"
#
##
## Note: Below parameter is needed for ncmpcpp
## to determine which output provides data for
## visualizer and thus allow syncing between
## visualization and sound as currently there
## are some problems with it.
##
#
visualizer_output_name = "My FIFO"
#
##
## Note: To enable spectrum frequency visualization
## you need to compile ncmpcpp with fftw3 support.
##
#
visualizer_type = "spectrum" (spectrum/wave)
#
## Note: Below parameter defines how often ncmpcpp
## has to "synchronize" visualizer and audio outputs.
## 30 seconds is optimal value, but if you experience
## synchronization problems, set it to lower value.
## Keep in mind that sane values start with >=10.

##
## Note: You can see whether your ncmpcpp build

##

##
## - syntax for each column is:
##

##
## Note: Width is by default in %, if you want a column to
## have fixed size, add 'f' after the value, e.g. (10)[white]{a}
## will be the column that take 10% of screen (so the real column's
## width will depend on actual screen size), whereas (10f)[white]{a}
## will take 10 terminal cells, no matter how wide the screen is.
##
## - color is optional (if you want the default one, type [])
##
## Note: You can give a column additional attributes by putting appropriate
## character after displayed tag character. Available attributes are:
##
## - r - column will be right aligned
## - E - if tag is empty, empty tag marker won't be displayed
##
## E.g. {lr} will give you right aligned column of lengths.

Re: My ncmpcpp config

This is such a great thread I want to open by saying thanks to all that posted their stuff and thanks to the many many great posters in #!.  This particular thread really helped me get off my rear and move from gmpc to ncmpcpp.  Well worth the effort by the way.  Since I have been a long time #! forum lurker I am not sure if I have much to contribute but ... someone may find this worthwhile or perhaps someone is doing it a better way.

I tend to run ncmpcpp in either geany or medit terminal windows and my settings for that are stolen from you guys.  What I do differently-maybe (but no one has mentioned it here). Is running a script that pops the album art into my conky and then combining that with mpdrating to pop up an OSD and rating when I hit a key combo. The end result looks like this.
conkypopup.jpg

Hmm, not sure why the thumb doesn't show the popup but the image it links to does?

Obviously this is on my aptosid system but it also works on both my #! acer lappys (Waldorf Sid).

If you aren't using mpdrating, I highly recommend it.  It auto creates playlists based on your ratings which I find invaluable.  I found it in the arch forums at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116113. I doctored it a little to overcome a couple of quirks added the OSD. Warning: I am no geek, hacker, guru, coder, etc. just an old guy who likes to learn smile

#!/bin/bash
# Summary: Script allows you to rate songs using the keys, a command line or the menu
# It then takes that info and adds the song to a playlist based on rating in the playlists folder
# Finally it posts then info to an OSD showing you all the info of the song
# NOTE: Re-rating the song will move it to a new playlist and remove it from that playlist. Rating a 1 skips that song. A rating of 0 removes all rating.
#        I don't use this.
## Usage:
# command line: mpdrating [0-5]
# HOT KEYS: W-[1-5]
# Openbox Menu: MPD rating - by lines config in menu
# Requires: MPD, MPC for music play and song info
# lib-notify for OSD, mpd-albumart.py for album art
#
# I hacked this script from: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116113 but most of it is his original code.

## Path to playlists

## The lock file will be unlocked when the script ends

I am not sure where I got mpd-albumart.py been using it for several years (google code?).  As that is conky and I am not sure anyone is even interested I won't post that here.  I did have to manipulate it a little as well.  The above script only uses it to get the image for the OSD which is optional.  Since I work a lot with x running but with only a terminal desktop and mpd I have a profile that nulls out conky but will still let it run and use the popup if I don't have anything else running.  If that makes sense.  What I am trying to say is you can rate a song as many times as you like and use the script to tell you who or what is playing now without having anything but mpd and conky running or even without conky but just a popup with no art. FWIW.

I also have a question.  I am a bit of a jazz buff and my comments tags are filled with who plays on the song. As in: Baker trumpet; Evans piano; Taylor drums;  I don't seem to be able to get this to output anywhere using now-playing and %C. Does anyone know how to retrieve this info?  I would like to have that in my OSD if I can figure out how to get it. TIA.

Re: My ncmpcpp config

Welcome to #!.

I could bet you would get better help in a seperate thread on the OSD issue. At least for now, no one that posted here uses an OSD at all. big_smile

Re: My ncmpcpp config

Thanks.  I guess I got carried away in my post. Sorry about that.  I am not really interested in the %C output for OSD or even OSD, just wanted to see if I could do it. I am interested in being able to configure ncmpcpp to output the %C if it is there. Then having that in my ncmpcpp output. Likewise what I really meant about the mpdrating is less about popping it up in an OSD and more about the potential uses of that script.  With a small amount of effort I can use it to create playlists on the fly whether nmpcpp is open or not with a key combo.  Mixing messages in a post is never wise and inadvertent hijacking is bad form -- really didn't mean to.

I am not sure how to pose my questions.  What I really want is to be able to show the %C somewhere.  Preferably in the song status area. But in song_list would be fine.  Command line would be fine. My RTFM skills are poor apparently because I can't seem to grok on the meaning of (for example)  $5%l$9$1 ($5 is blue no prob, %l is length, $9 end of current color, $1 string variable?). Is that correct?

ncmpcpp --now-playing "%C"  gives me a blank return.

If I try and create something like ...$3%C$9$1 - (whether this is song list or song status as say $8%C  $1) if empty it clears all output from that section and if full it shows nada.  If I can just figure out how to get that output to show if it is there I can script around it being empty.  So any help would be appreciated.  Teach a man to fish and all that.

Re: My ncmpcpp config

Is there a way I can disable the transparency of the terminator window that's running ncmpcpp? It's ruining my colour setup

Re: My ncmpcpp config

In the Terminator preferences, if you go to the Profiles tab, you can disable transparency for Terminator globally.  Don't know if there's a way to disable transparency just when running a specific CLI though...maybe using a separate terminal emulator for ncmpcpp would be an acceptable compromise?

Re: My ncmpcpp config

Terminator has a command line option to launch with a specific profile - i.e

terminator --profile=/home/<username>/.config/terminator/opaqueprofile

just need to set up an opaque profile then

terminator --profile=/home/<username>/.config/terminator/opaqueprofile -e <app of choice>

should do it for you (I know it works for mocp).
