as this seems to be obsolete I want to point out that there still is a reference to ubuntu in the short description. Does anyone know who can change this?
it's correct now

I must admit that I try to vote for it every day on DistroWatch. These aren't honest votes though. The honest ones would be linux newcommers or oldtimer's brushing up on the latest distrobutions or just in-betweeners keeping up with current ones. I have a strange suspicion that buntu and dora spam their ratings though, so I'm taking up the mantra for bang to do the same

^ I think I could write a very small shell script involving wget that would significantly up that up.

A mild caveat: The Distrowatch rankings are based solely on page hits -- nothing more -- and while it means people are looking at the distro's page, it doesn't mean everyone who does so is downloading the distro itself.
However (and you knew that was coming) . . . While the number of looks at the page doesn't always (or hardly ever) translates into an equal number of downloads, having a ranking that is in the top 100 is still pretty outstanding for any distro, since there are about 320 active distros out there.
So what makes it even more outstanding for us is that the CrunchBang ranking usually hovers between the 20s and the 40s, and spikes when there's a new image or a new version (just as the *buntus and Fedora spike every six months when they're released). As far as I'm concerned, all we need is for people to give us a look, and hopefully to have people download CrunchBang -- we can take it from there.
That said, these numbers are good, despite not knowing what the downloads are.
TL;DR version: Distrowatch.com rankings are based on page hits only, not downloads, but even by this metric we're pretty dang popular

^ In other words, what I said.
Or do they filter out multiple daily hits from the same IP? (I'm sure there's a FAQ/wiki area at distrowatch...)

I know this isn't the point, but when I go looking for a different distro, I think we have a much better resource in http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … anonymous/
Looking at distrowatch never seems to provide the info I'm looking for, but say, machinebacon knows freakin' everything about "distro X" if he's used it.
Let them keep their rankings...
