Re: Colourless CrunchBang

OK, my 2¢ worth ... I'll probably get change with that was well:

CrunchBang is what CrunchBang is.
If you don't like it as it comes out of the box, configure to your liking or install another distro!

But that's true of any distro!

Totally agree with a lot of statements here but these two, for me, put things in perspective with regards to CrunchBang:

Sad thing about the default Statler theme: after phases of theme-experimentation (n months) I always come back to it.

Re: Colourless CrunchBang

If anything, I'd make the Crunchbang default less shouty.
Other distros do a better job of showcasing exciting gadgets and contemporary style. Or of being truly lightwight and breathing new life into decrepit hardware. Or of coupling a truly blank slate with transparent infrastructure, to let neurotic geeks build the one perfect system in the universe.

Crunchbang is the one I'd show to non-geeks to demonstrate that less may be more. Stable, newbie-friendly but simple enough that exploration isn't too daunting. Tweaking it gently encourages good practice (friendly optional GUIs for functionality, some hand-editing required for looks.  No ridiculosity like having to download annoying bloat to hide annoying bloat).

LEGO won't be ready for the average user until it comes pre-assembled, in a single  unified look, and glued together so it doesn't come apart.

Re: Colourless CrunchBang

If folk find #! 'too black' all they need to do is change the wallpaper and theme and it can be pretty much as colourful as they like smile it's so quick and easy to do, and that's great!

Re: Colourless CrunchBang

Greets!

Coming from a Mac environment, #! is a strange and alien world;

a silent calm of seemingly implacable impenetrability, but beautiful,

very beautiful.

If I can be indulged with one further pretentious moment; #! is a work of Art.

Actually, even for a complete beginner like me, #! is easy to use.

I'm hooked!

I agree with the blacks/grays of Ansel's photography - but bobobex would kill him if he used the same 'subjects' that Ansel used for #! Wallpapers.

Next version of CrunchBang:  #! Polaroid
