Thanks for the responses; my ISP is rather nasty about bandwidth, so I've got to be selective about how I spend it; I was wondering if lowering the update interval was the optimal fix, or if there was a way of saying, "I don't care about these things; only download this thing I'm interested in."  Looks like interval setting it is.
Of course, I could always look out my window, but there's never any fun in that! wink

The script's curl (which is when it connects to the website and pulls the info) is controlled by the conkys update_interval. (or at least that is my understanding of how it works.)
You can configure the script to only show the info that you want.

Nope.  It's controlled by the execpi interval of when the script is initially called in Conky, and the execi intervals of all the objects you use in Conky.

Sure, if your CONKY Update interval is something like 2400 and the execpi call is something like 600 then the main Conky update interval will have an effect.  But, otherwise, a Conky update interval of 1, for example, would mean that the execpi of the script run call has all the delay control in the world.

I stand corrected then. smile

Re: Conky weather+moon scripts (Accuw/WUndergr/NWS/Weather.com/Lunaf.com)

both have a part to play
update_interval affects everything in the conky rc
execi interval affects just the one bit

but

having an update_interval of 1 and an execi 1800 will execute the command every 1800 seconds
likewise
having an update_interval of 1800 and using plain exec will also execute the command every 1800 seconds
if weatther was the ONLY thing you were displaying in a particular conkyrc then the second method should cut cpu use by conky to practically 0 between updates
but clearly this would be no good if you were displaying cpu usage and other things that need to be updated more frequently

i would not recommend mixing and matching update_intervals and execi intervals however
see here where i did some testing:

Very good to see everyone getting along so nicely... hmm

Hey, Teo.
I followed you over from the Ubuntu forums with a side trip to Arch Forums.
I thought I would let you know that I think the weather.com is broken now due to the new format of their site. I'm going to try to fix my own but if you get the chance to fix it for everyone before I do would be great.

The move to these forums got me in Athens, from where I went to Stuttgart (I'm writing this from Stuttgart now), from where I'll go to Prague for a few days, then back to Stuttgart, then Athens and then home.
I don't think I'll be able to correct the script for a week to 10 days as my access to a pc will be limited.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused - you leave for a few days and the world turns around.

Thanks for the scripts Teo.

I'm using the Accuweather_RSS script but have a question.

Where do I find the variables to add in an extra days forecast?

I may be wrong but I don't think the RSS feed has more than what you see.

THE AccuWeather.com RSS CENTER states:

In the old days, my blog was one of only two RSS feeds that we had, but we've now added:

- Worldwide Current Conditions
- Worldwide 2-Day Forecasts
- Regional Weather News Headlines
- National & World Weather News
- All Blogs, Including Entertainment, Travel, Astronomy and Global Warming

Thanks Sector11.

Looks like I'll have to use one of the other scripts and adapt to my requirements.

Good lord. You three (42dorian, Sector11 and TBG) moved so quick that I've got a case of whip-lash. lol
So now that you have settled in here, I've bookmarked this page for future reference and help in my conky should the need arise.

pvsage asked about an hourly conky for "rain" - makes sense, he rides a bike!

I asked if "temps" could be put in the "Hourly" conky.  Teo, being the super guy he is added even more info.

The default OTB hourly conky:

It required some rearranging with images and spacing so the code again:

I tried looking through the script but am not clever enough to see the problem. I think it's the weath_com script pointing to the wrong section on the weather.com site, but I'm not too sure. I'll try to investigate more.
Have a safe trip.

ANNOUNCEMENT No1
Czech women are the most beautiful women in the world. No "if"s, no "but"s, no "have you been to"s, no "have you seen Hostel"s. PERIOD.

ANNOUNCEMENT No2
Prague is the most beautiful city in the world. No "if"s, no "but"s, no "have you been to"s, no "have you seen Hostel"s. PERIOD.

ANNOUNCEMENT No3
Weather.com changed its page layout completely. Script 4 rewritten from scratch. They isolated all the info into separate pages, so the new script doesn't download as much stuff as the old one - if I did so, the script would be really, really slow.
The new conkyrc resembles the Accuweather ones.
Before suggesting the parsing of the "Today" page, I have to tell you that I tried to, but the specific page is totally inconsistent.
The cookie for the metric script should last for (quite) long. If not, I'm waiting for your reports.
Scripts rebundled.

PS1: Thanks to Sector11 once again for the awesome job with the 1d1.1 script.
PS2: Sorry for the delay this time.

Concerning Announcement #1 - have never met a Czech woman, therefore I cannot  confirm nor deny.
Concerning Announcement #2 - have never been to Prague I cannot  confirm nor deny, however Victoria Canada?
Concerning Announcement #3 - confirmed - weather·com is never satisfied.

PS1: Thanks to Sector11 once again for the awesome job with the 1d1.1 script.

Response No1:  If that's how you feel about it, NEVER go to Montreal or Toronto here in Canada.  They're an entirely different kind of creature than you're looking for.

Response No2:  If that's how you feel about it, NEVER go to Toronto unless you would like to feel like your soul has been ripped from your body, and it's ability to appreciate beautiful things removed by pure hatred.  Architects have been brutalising the place on a regular basis for over a hundred years.  (Even going back to when it was just called York.)  In fact, you can almost tell when a building was built by whether it's ugly or beautiful in Toronto.  If it's Beautiful?  Chances are it was designed, built, or both during an Odd-Numbered Decade.  If it's soul-suckingly-awful?  Chances are it was designed, built, or both during an EVEN-Numbered Decade.  CN Tower and Sky Dome (Currently renamed the Rogers Center)? 80's.  Most of the buildings on Bay Street (Our version of Wall Street in New York)?  1900's, 1920's, and 1940's.  The "New Young/Dundas Square"?  2000-2010.  THAT looks like someone took the classic Toronto Historical design that Torontonians have always loved, cut a square out of the middle, and dropped an Alien Landscape, as seen from a bad 60's Acid Trip, in it's place.  Where there were all these beautiful masonry sculptures and architectural scroll work on historical buildings, now there's all these post-modern-curved-metal-and-glass-utterly-plain-abominations.  Hell, they Defaced the Hard Rock Cafe because, although it was located in a historical LAND MARK, it had too traditional a look to it, and they just HAD to defile it so it wouldn't make the rest of the useless square look bad.

Oh, Yeah.  Welcome Back Teo!  Careful!  You might get jumped by a lot of happy people.  You were missed!

You should see Athens hmm

Oh, Yeah.  Welcome Back Teo!  Careful!  You might get jumped by a lot of happy people.  You were missed!

Thanks man; I usually get a script ready immediately, but this time it was impossible...

Not very happy with my inadequacy to parse the today page in the weather.com script.
I'll have another look at it.
Stay tuned guys...

Weather.com is not happy unless the script kiddies who work for them are totally mucking things up.
So glad you had a script for AccuWeather. It has been working just fine for several months now (I know, I just jinxed it!) without even a hic-cup.
