iceape (SM) keeps changing to default browser

I have icedove (TB), iceweasel (FF), and iceape (SM).  I use iceape for emails, but that's it.
The trouble is iceape (SM) keeps making itself the default browser - I rather use iceweasel
(FF) where all my bookmarks and extensions are.

I posted the question in the mozilla zine.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic … &t=2457887

An answer came back posting another link.  The last post in that link has

Set as default option missing in linux / GNOME 3.X/ OPENSUSE too. Have to go to
  "gnome-control-center"  to change the preferences.

What is the openbox equivalent?  I can change the default in iceweasel (FF), but iceape (SM) keeps
changing the default back.   I want to do it once for all.

Btw, update-alternative does NOT do the job - only change once and iceape reverses it back.

Thank in advanced for your help.

Re: iceape (SM) keeps changing to default browser

Been a long time since messed w iceape, think was antix default, can't remember. Long story short, might check the obvious, many mozilla browsers have a box in the settings for check to see if X browser is default. Might wanna click through iceape's settings and see if that's your culprit.

Curious ... are you using seperate firefox profiles for them ? Doubt that's related or anything, only curious if ya are. More than likely wrong about the misset setting thing too. Might be worth a look though.

Seems you use the same profile for Iceape and Iceweasel and they are interfering?

Re: iceape (SM) keeps changing to default browser

I'm completely confused... why are you using Iceape for emails when you have Icedove installed?

Anyway, I think ivanov hit the nail on the head, your ~/.mozilla folder is seeing Iceweasel and Iceape's browser as the same thing...

Re: iceape (SM) keeps changing to default browser

Thank for replying.

The reason for using iceape as well as icedove is because I actually have too many email addresses -
About 5 active ones and a few more I occasionally use - And only two of them have spams.
Yes, I could merge them all into icedove, but I separate them so that the alarm for icedove catches
me while the iceape alarm is weak.

el_korace, what does your command do?  What does the 200 means?  Is it something about iceweasel
(FF) overlapping with iceape (SM)?

Re: iceape (SM) keeps changing to default browser

Hi, to add to this, i ended up with icedove (thunderbird) opening Konqurer as default - NONE of the usual graphical menu's existed, so I had to follow http://kb.mozillazine.org/Changing_the_ … hunderbird - and it didn't work, I had to uninstal konqurer too.

So, some pointers. Firstly, you need to see your hidden files (use ctrl h or the menus) to find there files. Secondly, to uninstall something you open your terminal (superkey t) and type

sudo apt-get purge *INSERNT NAME of APP* - tab can help with spelling etc.

Really though guys, this shouldn't be this complicated - its a basic setting which already has a GUI path set up in icedove/thunderbird in use on other OS's, even debian I think!

Perhaps this could be changed in a new release?
