Hi Kbang, I see that your tintrc has 3 times the block "Background and Border".
If it is read from top to bottom, the last value will be a black and transparent border, won't it ?

I forget the order they go in, I believe the top set is the actual panel.   The middle set is the inactive tasks and the final set is the active task?  I started making it all monochrome with regards to the panel and only changing the text colors.  Depends on the theme and my mood I guess.

This version will be completely white (the bar will be)

Sorry, I still can't see anything. Anyway, thanks a lot for your efforts. I might try your hints with debian testing, a new crunchbang install or I simply will stick to paldo linux and xfce.

I'm just trying out tint2 and trayer instead of the default lxpanel. It's still clipping my conky once the wireless notification bubble appears, but besides that, how do I get a volume control applet to appear? With lxpanel I had it checked off and it never showed up. But with trayer, how do I add applets like the volume control. Maybe I'm missing something here? Or maybe I'm just slow.

^trayer is just a systray. You can't add a volume applet to it.

I really like this, but is there a way to make this hide behind maximized windows or auto-hide?  This is taking a bit too much real estate on my eee.  I could always just go back to no tray and alt-tab...:)

Did anyone else get the following error when trying to run VolWheel from command line?

Can't locate Alsa.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/local/bin/volwheel line 26.

I check the dependencies and it appears I have met them all?  I dunno.....

edit:  NVM, I found out how to make it work.  I just put the contents of the lib folder included in the VolWheel tar.gz, and placed it in one of the locations listed above.  I think I used /usr/share/perl5.

Anyway it works now.  Now just have to get it to load on startup.

One thing about crunchbang, you will learn a good bit about linux if you want things to work just so.....

tint2 is quite nice, but it makes a bit of a mess when you select an app which is a different workspace.  It clearly switches workspace, then redraws itself before updating - ie it draws itself with the previous app still highlighted, and then updates itself to highlight the now focused app.  ie you get lots of flashing, and it just looks a bit messy.  Not sure now which pager I was running it with - Ie tried quite a few WMs the last few days, Iḿ starting to lose track, maybe I tried it under gnome.

One feature (lack thereof) in lxpanel that is really bugging me is that the pager doesnt follow window focus - ie if I select an app from the task bar that is in another workspace, it actually moves that app to the current workspace, instead of jumping me to the workspace that the app is on.
Is there a way to change this, I cant see anything in the panel config file?  Otherwise lxpanel and I will part company sometime soon, hopefully not accompanied by too much of my hair.

And then there's being able to change the order of tabs in the task list... In fact it would be nice to have an "auto-arrange" option, where the taskbar was divided into workspace-groups, just subtly (a slighty bigger space between tabs).   ie all the tabs for apps on workspace 1 are adjacent, then a small gap, then all the apps on w/s2 and so on.  New windows are automatically added to the correct group depending which workspace you launched them from.....

tint2 now includes its own systray and using trayer is no longer necessary
