There's already a statler-dev repo that packages are tested in before moving to the main repo.

Bump! Sorry, but I didn't want to start a new topic about Chrome. Is it still in the repos? Can't seem to find it....

^ The easiest way to get Google Chrome is to add the repo:

I find the combination of $BROWSER and the word "stable" in a post-2008 context amusing.
I'm so meta, even this acronym

Does "aptitude hold google-chrome-stable" prevent apt-get dist-upgrade from installing chrome when it is in the statler-repository? I prefer opera 11 btw.
same here opera 11 is doing great

If you choose to download the .deb package directly from http://www.google.com/chrome I belive it automagically adds the repository upon installation. I may be wrong though. I didn't check my sources before and after installation.

Thanks! I ended up adding up the repo.
Had trouble with a .deb package wich failed to install correctly, so I decided to play it safe this time.

I love me some chrome
I was not able to use the command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stableis this dated? i may not have been thorough enough with reading through this thread. The error appeared to be in finding google-chrome-stable
also, the command:
deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable mainyielded an error, where my terminal did not recognize the "deb"
Am I missing something here?
BUT, my issue has been [RESOLVED], as I do have Google Chrome installed and it is my default browser. Downloading it straight from www.google.com worked out great! Since this issue had been resolved before my posting, I am unsure of how to pull up a history log on my terminal. Sorry about not giving exact errors.
Great thread guys, thanks!

Did you have the repository set up before running that first command? It isn't in the default sources list, at least not in Waldorf images. You would then get a 'no installation candidate' error.
I once went for a support job that required using OS X. I quit the training after a week.

I did not, looks like I will need to find out which repos I need to setup for future projects, thank you!

Me TOO, in fact, in my EARLIEST Linux noob days, I would not even try a distro that did not have Google-Chrome included. Now that I have learned how to download and install it, I have no worries. Today, when I installed CrunchBang, Google-Chrome was not default, but it was included in the menu to EASILY install without having to go to the web page download.

I think I'm gonna stop being a firefox fanboy for once and actually give Iceweasel a fair trial. It's just a different name, but in essence, it is still firefox. Besides, all my favorite addons work perfectly under the guise of Iceweasel! So i'm already a happy camper.
