http://www.golem.de/news/ob-christian-u … 90821.html

The city of Munich in Bavaria, southern Germany, reports here on its successful implementation of Linux.
The project under the name LIMUX has shown positive results in respect to overall system stability as well as licensing and maintenance cost reduction.

^ lol, really ?
OK, as i understand it, the article refers to the everyday use of linux for administrative tasks in typical office rooms,
and not for application on or within the city's public transport service technology.
however, the question arises why it has not yet been applied there as well ?

Re: reports on Munich's LIMUX project (german & english)

Touch screen interfaces like are common in cash registers and various other pieces of equipment designed for the common folk still aren't as well supported under Linux WMs as they are in Windows XP and newer versions of Windows. The exception of course, is Android. As more and more droid code is merged back into the mainline linux kernel, it will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

iceland follows. that's cool. each tsunami starts as a small wave first. smile
and i could imagine that people who discover linux at work this way might also make the transition on their systems at home.
