Atm #!

Hi folks,

greetz from a coding lawyer from Berlin.

Took my first coding steps in the late 80ies with Basic big_smile but soon switched to Assembly as prefered language. In the 90ies coded something for the demo scene .. now coding just for fun (some of the "newer" releases: http://www.programmersheaven.com/user/L … tributions).

Job, Family .. no more time for coding, only maintaining my project OpenLawyer's - http://sourceforge.net/projects/openlawyers/ ..

First Linux steps with Suse 5.0 - delivered on 3,5 " discs .. didn't make fun .. came back to linux with Ubuntu 08.04 .. now a distro-hopper - but still prefer Debian based distros ..

Newest "hobby"/time killer - HTPC based on Linux, XBMC with TVHeadEnd as TV-Backend .. a challenge to establish the highest WAF !

That's my Desktop - #! stable with debian backports:

Re: Atm #!

Thanks cool Yeah, it's not an easy task to find a 1) good distro and b) a good community .. for that #! should have a higher rank at distrowatch wink

I guess I'll stay here for a while ..

Btw. since english is not my native language - does "coding lawyer" mean something piggish lol ? Hope it says what I meant - "a Lawyer that has the ability to program computers too" tongue

If you are interested in a really cool community project - just enter the world of XBMC .. it totally rocks - and even more if you use it as your media center in the living room !

Sorry, we're somewhat biased here in the US when it comes to lawyers. More often than not, we see them as characters of real people having one skill: The Law. Having another skill-set, or table manners, or ethics is culturally unknown here. Might have something to do with the fact that the majority of individuals holding public office have law degrees.

But, knowing how to Code? And running CrunchBang? Wicked COOL!

"... in addition, Your Honor, I visited the client's website and found his CSS implementation was less skillful than a three-year-old child with finger-paints. The java-script was elementary at best, and the meta-tags included 'Microsoft Publisher.' Clearly, he does not have the mental facilities to attempt this level of crime..."

[Yes, I know. I watched too much TV. It rotten my brain.] lol

Re: Atm #!

It's especially encouraging to see a FOSS-friendly lawyer.

There was a movie a few years ago, a comedy called Liar Liar, in which a lawyer was cursed by his son to tell the truth for an entire day.
Kid:  "My dad's a liar."
Teacher:  "You mean he's a lawyer."
Audience: LULz roll

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );
We've earned a reputation as a nice, friendly community; please help us keep it that way.

Oh okay .. that situation doesn't differ from germany's lol the same here .. but as always .. the exception proves the rule .. the reason I didn't study informatics / computer since in the 90ies was simply that I thought some day there are so many computer experts that this job wouldn't feed a family .. Unfortunately I was absolutely, totally wrong .. but it's okay .. handling law isn't that different from coding, it's all about breaking down real life problems to abstract descriptions and find solutions whereas the programming language and the system specifications for the coder is the law for the lawyer .. so I'm quite happy with that job wink .. except for that being a lawyer doesn't feed your family *arrgh* tongue
