hey guys! since i couldnt get debian to look and run like #!, i decided to go for #!. hehe. so i hope this is the propper section to post this.
so i installed with no sweat the latetest 64Bit BPO version of #! and all goes fine. exept for a couple of things, but for now i'll only state this:
i have a 500gb hd partitioned 2gb for swap, 30gb for linux, 90gb for window and another one for storage. on debian squeeze and wheezy these "windows" partions shoed up on the file explorer but now, all i get are the #! partitions as if i didn't have any other ones.
like so:
but when i for instance search for somehing on a dir like on imageshack, the partitions show up, like so:

any thoughts on how can i see and use/mount them any time i want?
thabks in advance.
kudos
EDIT: added the second printscreen

Not sure about the #! installer. Has to pretty much be the Debian, know many gnu/nix installers will ask someone which partitions they want included in /etc/fstab during install. Or think recall having seen many asking about it.
Could look over this babbling post perhaps. Am also sure there are many disk apps out there that allow for disk/partition management. Cannot recall any particular ones or recommend any off the top. Have only ever played with those kinda progs. Have a ntfs and an ext3 share set to automount in fstab here.
Thought remember someone saying you could drag and drop stuff into thunar too. Couldn't remember, so tried it and yep it worked for my Share folder. Just clicked on the sucker, dragged it over into thunar's list and let it go there. Could play around with that for including whatever ya like in thunar's sidebar ?
vll !

You may want to install disk-manager from the repos as well - it's a little gtk tool that allows you to configure mounted drives. Once you've run that, go to /media/ and drag the folders into your shortcuts sidebar like @CBizgreat! said.

Wondering what would happen if you set up and chown mount pts for those partitions, use that -R ( recursive flag while doing it ) and then drag and drop them into thunar, should work. I mean they should stay there, until removed one would think ?
Just tried it and seems it works just fine here. Removed the thunar shortcut I'd made to the Shares folder, then just went to /media ... Found the mount pts for those shared partitions I'd made there and dragged them into thunar's sidebar. Works perfectly so far, think may be a good way to go, to get whatcha want there.
Lol ... actually thanks for bringing this up. This is easier, than having to go to ~/ .. click on the Shares folder, then click on the symlink to the mount pts to access those partitions. Now can just open thunar and click on the sidebar icons to get to stuff. Excellent !

Once you've set up your partitions with disk-manager, they will be mounted when you boot and your shortcuts will stick.

ok, that did work and i did enabled "write support" as well
but on question, is there a way to display the partitions like on the second photo i posted, instead of creating a "folder shortcut"?

I don't think there's a way to do that with Thunar at the moment. You might have a look at PCManFM which, I believe, does have this ability.

^ It works like OP wants it if it's mounted, right? But not otherwise?

^ Well, either way I don't think it's possible to get Thunar to show the partitions without manually making shortcuts yourself. Using disk-manager and manual shortcuts at least comes close, although that does mean the partitions are "always on".

well, yeah, everything is mounted, but i really finde it weird, not having them displayed like so or not even be detected for starters, dont you think?
oh well, hope this gets fixed on the next stable release
many thanks to you all. will mark it as solved.

Well, the mounts themselves can be set in /etc/fstab - disk-manager just makes that a bit easier. This is the same with any Linux, as far as I know. I agree that it's a bit of an annoyance with Thunar - maybe try PCManFM that I mentioned - it's in the repos and is quite small, so it won't negatively affect you to try it out. Linux is all about options and figuring out what suits you best

Not that I know of either, I mean the changing icon appearance thing. Don't claim to be a gnu/nix guru though.
Can dress them up a bit, by naving to them n thunar, right click, selecting properties, then emblems and pick something to make them look a bit different than a plain folder. Surprised there aren't thunar theme's aplenty that could change icons/etc ... Kinda weird for such a popular file-manager ... Not to have this kinda thing me thinks.
Had to upload this sucker, as it's kinda fun and better than the way I went about it in that massive babbling automount how to. Wish I'dve known how to do this then and have to update that frigger to include this babble for folks using thunar. Anyway ... attached a screenshot and here's another link to the how to for peeps convenience.
Screenshot of what was babbling about, dragging and dropping mount pts for shared partitions into thunar, for easier access. Once ya drag n drop em, they're there to stay n thunar, until/unless ya choose to remove em. Sheesh, photobucket is taking forever today ... wth. Doh ! Errrr ... guess it helps if you temp allow the webpg in noscript .. sighs.
Alright, this was entirely too much work. Pretty much dumping time at this pt, but gave me a reason to screw w scrot and gimp, imma dork, what else can I say ? Crossing fingers ... hitting submit button. Glad you got things setup more to your liking there Zacharias.
vll !

yeah, i know, i know. thanks for the support. but i'll skip the PCManFM for now. i want to have a #! as mint as possible, exept for the eyecandy tweaks. lol. hence i said, hopefull it will be fixed on the next generation of stable #! based on Stable Wheezy
once again, many thanks.

^ We'll see if this "feature" ever gets added to Thunar, but I'm glad you got things something like what you were aiming for
