Yes, of course it is and worked perfectly so far. My fault, I didn't actually copy it from google-chrome.list but from the browser where I tried do see what's up. Thanks anyway.
The browser replies an 404. Even with http://dl.google.com/linux
So there's definitely something going on ...?

It's possible Google is deliberately redirecting http access to a 404 page.
http://dl.google.com redirects to https://www.google.com/chrome.
