Watched recently Inception and was not that impressed, too many action scenes I suppose. The idea though I liked.
^ yeah, it's the idea behind it all that is interesting, mainly. after watching that movie we spent the entire evening talking about things inside things inside things inside things etc, weird stuff
If you liked the concept but disliked the movie, might I suggest Paprika?

@fortyseven: damn, spent some time trying to remember that title. Paprika is what Inception is based on, right? or what angry tongues would call 'stolen from'

^ Ha, stolen, no wonder then. Have to look at the Paprika.

I think the term you're looking for is "inspired by".

^ Very often yes. Somehow the Americans want to see everything in English, so instead to put some subs they make a whole new film. Sorry to beat always the Americans here.

I like more the Films in the original Script and movie!!!
Like the japanese anime and movies, It's better with subtitle. Without intent to offend.

I'm American, and I would much rather watch the original film than an American remake. They always make them horribly. For example, I read all of Stieg Larsson's "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series, excellent books, though I had to read them in English. ( I know quite a bit of Norsk, but cannot read in Swedish or fluently in Norsk for that matter) but my point being, the Swedish movies based from the books are great. They remade it in English and I haven't even wanted to see it. Although Trent Reznor did the score for the soundtrack.

Just an example, Abre los ojos, how is it called there, Vanilla Sky, horrible remake with Tom Cruise, at least they took Penélope Cruz for the movie. But that did not make it better.
Or Funny Games, never saw the remake and I do not plan to even though this one should be just like the original because Michael Haneke made it again.
Many Japanese films, especially horror films from Eastern Asia were made again in the US.
The only one I like is Scorsese's The Departed , adapted to America.

I love Vanilla Sky and The Departed.
And as far as I know it's not based from another film, it's just based from the book.

^ You mean Vanilla Sky? Did you ever saw the Spanish original?
The Departed is one of my favs.

Yep, The Departed is great, I just saw it last weekend for the first time.
Another of my favourites is the Ocean's Trilogy - Ocean's Eleven (2001), Ocean's Twelve (2004) and Ocean's Thirteen (2007).

Vanilla Sky, imo, was a terrible film largely because it was a remake. Originality goes a long way in my books and when Hollywood regurgitates the same old stories time after time, I could just vomit. Although the original, Open Your Eyes, was a lot better, it still wasn't the greatest movie I've seen.
Same thing with The Departed.

I especially hate it when Hollywood takes a theme from an indie film and turns it into just another piece of sh*t:
1. Music and Lyrics took the basic premise of Once and turned it into just another romantic comedy.
2. Lars and the Real Girl took the premise of Finding Love for Annie and turned it into just another comedy/drama.
3. Repo Men - in my opinion one of the most egregious offenders - took the lead character from Repo! the Genetic Opera, gave him a partner
and turned it into a fifteen-minutes-into-the-future action movie.
Yuck, yuck, and yuck.

^Speaking of Vanilla Sky, a movie version of "Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said" is in the works.

I've read pretty much all of PKD's books that we have in our library*. Including "Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said". It will be very interesting to see, how it will be adapted.
*(Though I liked Scanner Darkly very much, can't say I am a fan. PKD is just way too much for me. Damn absurd.)

@pvsage: hmm, i just read somewhere how 'Repo Men' was a great classic and i should watch it... your words make me second-guess that suggestion... maybe i'll just go and see for myself. often when you don't know about the original, the remake isn't so bad

Just got back from a movie marathon (well, it was only 2 flicks) at a mate's house.

13 Assassins
Been wanting to watch this one for a while, but only recently managed to get a BluRay version. If I was only given one word to describe this film, it would be "relentless". Definitely Takashi Miike's (director) best work. Highly recommended.
