Re. the tty1 keystroke issue:  I just schmoogled "debian tty1 keystroke ignored"...this thread was the first hit I could find related to this bug.  Maybe it isn't known upstream?

Maybe. FWIW, I've had the exact same problem with Slim when I messed around with the live CD for the November release. I dropped to tty1, and it was laggy as hell.

Installation caused no problems, although some warnings about firmware showed up, but those were easily fixed. Sadly, my battery life has massively decreased in 3.1.0, so I'll switch back to 2.6.39 I guess. neutral

Try to add pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1to your kernel line in /etc/default/grub, run

 sudo update-grub

and reboot.
