[Solved] Thunar issue

Hello,

I have a strange problem with thunar. When I right-click in thunar and want to Create Document, there is no further option to choose from (like template or empty one - this may very well be the cause of the problem). And if I hover over this particular item a little longer thunar maxes my CPU to 100% (I know it thanks to conky) and often stays like that untill I turn the PC off. I can only move mouse cursor and quickly save my open documents but I can't apply xkill, start terminal, taskbar any shortcuts... nothing.

I run debian wheezy netinstall with crunchbang scripts and have both openbox and xfce installed. This problem happens in both of them. My system is fully updated, thunar version is 1.2.3. I have already tried to delete the thunar config files (as suggested in here http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … -is-it-me/ even though it is a slightly different issue), reinstall thunar and all its plugins, tried using treeview and hide/show hidden files but so far no luck.

It is no biggie, I just have to pay attention to the position of my cursor while right-clicking in thunar, but it is definitely bothersome.

One quick update: gksudo thunar works just fine - no such issue. And the items in Create Document are there! But copying thunar config files from root to my ./config didn't help...

Interesting.  I haven't played with that Thunar templates stuff, will have to read a bit on it.

It might be worthwhile to start a top session (or similar)in a term before making the CPU hammering start, so you can see what is consuming the cycles.  If it's calling some other proggie and that proggie is hanging it might give us something to Google.

Anything weird about perms on the ~/Templates dir? Xfce page suggests that's where the template files are served from.

Re: [Solved] Thunar issue

^ I haven't used or made any templates yet. So the dir is empty. I just like to open an empty file directly from thunar from time to time, but I can't do it in wheezy anymore without overcharging my CPU. I didn't run top in terminal, because I can see the top 5 processes thanks to my conky config - that's how I know thunar to be the culprit... Just to be sure about the templates dir I tried PCManFM and it opens empty file without any troubles and offers to use templates (if any) as well. Pitty about the lacking configuration though.
BTW I have found out more issues with thunar - copy/paste doesn't always work, sometimes I have to apply it 2 times to do it. And when I tried to copy bigger files (around 1 GB) from my usb to pc, thunar stopped responding in a few cases. But xkill solved it at least this time. I normally carry out these operations in Double Commander I just wanted to test thunar more thoroughly.
The older thunar in #! had no such hiccups. I am considering switching back to statler hmm

Interesting issues you have. Could be a faulty config but do not know where. I am on Sid and use the newest Thunar of course, never have seen such a problem.

I mentioned it because I've seen out-of-the-box .conkyrc configs where the Top 5 list was for memory use, not CPU use.  I'm sure yours is doing what you expect.

Subbing to the thread to see what happens next...

Re: [Solved] Thunar issue

Yesterday I reinstalled wheezy on my notebook to see if I could solve the issues that way. This time I didn't use my favourite way - netinstall without DE with slightly altered good old omns script. I chose the full xfce dektop instead. I didn't format my home partition although I had deleted all the configs for thunar and xfce I could find in ~/.config, .local and .cache before I started. Unfortunately even after fresh install all the aforementioned problems with thunar still persisted.
So I solved it (kind of) with reinstalling #! Statler. All is peachy again. Thunar 1.0.2 is old but reliable without any annoyances. I still don't know the cause of thunar troubles on wheezy (google didn't help), so I will let this thread unsolved for now. I will definitely try wheezy again in a few weeks.

Re: [Solved] Thunar issue

Well, after a week I installed debian netinstall wheezy again. Just to see the latest and greatest I did an upgrade to sid instead of staying with testing. And thunar works! It even starts faster than in wheezy and without uninstalling gvfs-backends. New version or a better config? Not that I am complaining. Anyway sid is so far a very good and surprisingly stable replacement for squeeze and/or wheezy cool
