I honestly didnt think it was possible!!!

Here I've been hopping from distro to distro and here you have the nerve to make the perfect one!

All kidding aside.  I have flirted with linux since redhat 7 but  I got irritated enough and decided to go MS free a couple of weeks ago.  Have ubuntu 8.04 on my secondary and was using my primary to distro hop.

I have to admit that even in my most optimistic estimates  I did not think that I would find THE distro so soon.   I installed #! about 4 days ago and well BANG (sign... ooh so corny) the utter awesomeness hit me with almost physical force.

I have found one thing that annoys me however.  utterly minor in the scheme of things but here it is.  When using Terminator whenever I hit TAB to auto-complete it flickers on me.  In the mean time I have just switched to using XFCE4-terminal but, I would really like to be able to fix that little thing. I thought at first that is was a driver thing so I installed the proprietary Nvidia drivers.  Alas however it still flickers.

Ohh well other than that extraordinarily minor itch.  I believe I have found the perfect disto, and an very happy at joining the community!!!

Re: I honestly didnt think it was possible!!!

Hello Grizaptimus smile

Thank you for your introduction and your kind words, I am really pleased you are enjoying the distribution.

Regarding the flickering within Terminator, I have noticed it too, but until I read your post I had not really thought about it too much. Anyhow, concerned that the flickering is preventing the distro from being perfect, big_smile , I decided to look into it. Apparently, the flickering is not actually a bug, it is a visual terminal bell. Anyhow, I found a fix! w00t!

Open the Terminator's config file for editing with the following terminal command:

gedit ~/.config/terminator/config

and add the following line:

force_no_bell=true

You will need to restart Terminator if it is already running.

Also, I am not sure if you have seen it, but there is another thread somewhere discussing the use of Tango colour palette within Terminator. If you are interested in this, below are the full contents of my Terminator config which now contains the flicker fix and Tango colour palette:

scrollbar_position=disabled
force_no_bell=true
background_color=#000000
foreground_color=#ffffff
font=Mono 9
palette=#2E2E34343636:#CCCC00000000:#4E4E9A9A0606:#C4C4A0A00000:#34346565A4A4:#757550507B7B:#060698209A9A:#D3D3D7D7CFCF:#555557575353:#EFEF29292929:#8A8AE2E23434:#FCFCE9E94F4F:#72729F9FCFCF:#ADAD7F7FA8A8:#3434E2E2E2E2:#EEEEEEEEECEC

Many many thanks for raising this! I am well chuffed to have found a fix smile Hope to see you around the forums some more!

Re: I honestly didnt think it was possible!!!

Nice work. I'd stopped using Terminator because of this. Everything is back to normal again smile

Hey thanks for all the quick reply's everyone!!!

I edited the config file and now... Wonderfulness!!!

Before I asked I looked around for a couple of days trying to figure this out. If you could you please tell me where you found that information I would be most appreciative.

Re: I honestly didnt think it was possible!!!

Thanks swj!

Checked the man page for terminator and didn't even consider looking for another terminator related program.

Live and learn.
